A Handsome Gangetic Valley Harpoon of Medium Size. Ancient India, Uttar Pradesh, c. 1500-1200 BC. Harpoon of copper, with reinforced triangular blade of medium width on thick cylindrical shaft -- this tapering towards a narrower flattened base. The ends of the heavy blade terminate in longish barbs, with additional backwards-facing barbs symmetrically arranged along the shaft. Piercing at rear most barb for attaching head to handle. A very well preserved example of these scarce tools or weapons, with very fine two-tone green patina. Length: 12-7/8". Estimated Value $500 - 800

Lot of Two Bronze Blades -- A Robust Persian Spearhead, and a Slim Indian Harpoon. Luristan, N.W. Iran, & Ancient India, Uttar Pradesh, c. 1500-1200 BC. The two an interesting contrast of blade types. The Indian harpoon of the type seen in the earlier lot, but slimmer and smaller, and comprised of a multi-barbed blade only. This with six paired, symmetrical barbs (one missing where blade was pierced for attaching cord). Behind these, two thick, triangular swellings, one with an additional piercing to take a second cord. The Persian point, c. 1000-800 BC., is comprised of a narrow lanceolate blade, with wide, rounded midrib, and set on a broad and very thick, squarish shaft with flaring protrusions and sharply tapered tang. Blade edges well sharpened. The Indian piece a little bent, but shows overall fairly modest use; with pleasing medium to tan green patina. The Persian Very Fine, with moderate signs of use, and with deep green to dark brown patina. Length of harpoon: 9-3/4". Length of spear point: 14-1/2"; comes with black metal stand. Lot of 2 pieces. Egyptian Wooden Ptah-Seker-Osiris Figure in Polychrome. Ptolemaic Period 304-30 BC. The obelisk is hollow and would have contained a scroll. The mummiform figure wears a crown of double plumes representing the upper and lower kingdoms with a vertical column of hieroglyphics. Exhibits normal aging and a few old repairs. Luristan Bronze "Master of Animals". Luristan bronze finial in the form of a Janiform, anthropomorphic tube terminating at the top in a human head flanked by rampant grotesque animals holding the outstretched ears of the man in their mouths, two loops below the animals' legs. The partially cleaned side reveals the animals' front legs and paws held against the man's upper body. One loop partially missing and repair to one of the flanking animals, otherwise complete. Elamite Terracotta Ram Head Whistle ca. 2000 B. C. Elam was an ancient Pre-Iranian civilization centered in the far west and southwest of what is now modern-day Iran, stretching from the lowlands of what is now Khuzestan and Ilam Province as well as a small part of southern Iraq. Offered is an excellent terracotta whistle in excellent condition with the body and head of a ram. A very small chip from under jaw, not visible. Nearly 4" in length and 2½" tall. Fine blackware pottery jar in an almost canteen form with short spout, body decorated with standing figure in crescent headdress with top slope of jar decorated wth 6 amphibious creatures. The reverse reveals the amphibious creature tails continuing creating a fantastic ridged effect stopping midway. Measuring at about 9 x 7 x 4" and in superior condition. 3 Pre-Columbian Polychrome Painted Vessels, Ecuador. Three Pre- Columbian polychrome painted pottery pieces from Ecuador. Large bowl at about 4 x 7 x 7" has polychorme painted design inside bowl and supported by footed base. Bowl has been expertly repaired due to two small breaks. The other two are small very rounded vessels, one with a stylized reptile that sits atop, the body creating the lip 5 x 4 x 4". The other a round vessil, saucer shaped with geometric designs, 4 x 4 x 5" and both in very fine condtion with the latter only having two tiny chips at lip. Estimated Value $400 - 600

500-200 B.C. Bell Shaped Gold Ornaments. Greek Classical/Hellenistic Period, a collection of 5 bell shaped ornaments in 22 K gold that were sewn into the garments or piece of jewelry of the nobility. Hammered designs give each ornament an appealing texture. The two large bell shaped pieces measure 2 mm. x 1½ mm., one with a partial separation. The three slightly smaller bells measure 2 mm. x 1 mm. and still retain their shape. Also included is 9½ mm. length of gold thread used to secure the ornaments. Comes in a Riker mount display.
