Beautifully engraved and flamboyantly hand-tinted engraved map on laid paper of the East Indies, 19½ x 27", matted to 24½ x 30¾". Map depicts modern Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and parts of Southeast Asia and New Guinea region, and Arnhem Land in northern Australia. Ornamental cartouche at lower left with title on drape, carried by mer-putti, four scales at top right. Our map was published in the Atlante Veneto of 1690-1701, one of the most ornate of all 17th century atlases and a "marvellous source of information on contemporary Italian science and geography." (The World Encompassed 195). Estimated Value $500 - 600
