Leaf from the London Polyglot Bible (New Testament) (1654-1657 A.D.). Leaf from the London Polyglot Bible New Testament (Acts 22-23), Londini: Imprime Thomas Roycroft. Edited by Dr. Brian Walton, an Anglican priest, divine, and scholar, it included nine languages: Hebrew, Chaldee, Samaritan, Syriac, Arabic, Persian, Ethiopic, Greek, and Latin. Published in six great folios, it was one of the first English books sold by subscription (£10.). It was the typographical achievement of the century, and for it, Walton was consecrated Bishop of Chester, and Roycroft, the publisheer, was named the Kings Printer of Oriental Languages by Charles II. This leaf from the New Testament contains: (on the recto) the text in the Latin Vulgate and the Arabic and Ethiopic versions, each with a Latin translation (on the verso) the Greek Septuagint and the Syriac and Ethiopic versions, each with a Latin translation. One page, 17¾ x 11", with headlines, borders, and columns ruled in red to distinguish and separate the various translations. With some mild toning and a single hole at the lower left, this leaf is in fine condition for its age. Estimated Value $200 - 300

Pope Francis (1936 -). Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, Pope Francis is the 266th and current Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. His chosen name honors Saint Francis of Assisi. He is the first Jesuit Pope and the first from the Americas. A wonderful autograph obtained during his New York City visit in September of 2015, a fine, large signature in blue felt tip pen, on a page, 10½ x 8", carefully removed from a commemorative edition of "Us Weekly" issued in advance of the papal visit. Ben-Gurion, David (1886-1973). Primary founder and first Prime Minister of the State of Israel. Typed letter signed, in Hebrew, as Prime Minister, on official letterhead with the raised seal of the Israeli government, 1 page, 8 x 6", Jerusalem, Israel, October 25, 1961. To Mr. Allen Secher. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Commenting first on the addressee's apparent facility with the Hebrew language, Ben-Gurion writes a straightforward response, providing reference to a number of published articles concerning the unmentioned topic about which Mr. Secher inquired. The letter is framed with a small black & white photograph of Ben-Gurion for an overall size of 15 x 12". Folded at the vertical and horizontal centers to fit the envelope, else fine.
