Lot 1482
1856. NGC graded Proof 66. Only 25 are believed to have been minted. However, later research is beginningto question this number as it appears that more than that number are known today. What is becoming clearer is that a photographic record is essential for tracking coins like this, so that over a few generations, the true number of those that exist can more accurately determined. Boldly struck and amazingly well preserved, with light blue toning on both sides. The fields are free of any distracting contact marks, as are the frosted devices. In short, this coin is stunning, both in quality as well as the eye appeal for the toning. An extremely challenging issue to find at all, with such a tiny mintage and the number known today Pop 2; none finer at NGC .
Estimated Value $18,000 - 20,000.

Lot 1486
1870-CC. NGC graded AU-50. Nice even light silver-gray toning on both sides. The fields and devices are pleasing as there are none of the usual deep marks that are so often found on these Carson City Mint coins. This one must have circulated gently! 1870 was the first year of coinage production at the Carson City Mint, not many of these were saved and most of the known examples show considerable wear and tear. For the collector who desires both high grade and good eye appeal, this one should certainly please even the fussiest numismatist for this key issue. Only 54,617 struck. Pop 4; 8 finer at NGC.
Estimated Value $18,000 - 20,000.
