Seated Liberty Half Dimes

Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 1404
1837/1837. Large Date, VP-001. NGC graded MS-67. Lovely rainbow toning on both sides with deeper blues and russets around the rims, brighter at centers. The strike is bold and the surfaces are free of any scuff worthy of note. The date is repunched low and this is somewhat careless, considering that this was the first year off issue for the new designs by Christian Gobrecht. After these were released, it was determined that stars should be added to the obverse, which was done in 1838 on all but a modest number of New Orleans half dimes which continued in the original No Stars style. Pop 1; none finer at NGC for the variety.
Estimated Value $9,000 - 10,000.
