Collection of Revolutionary War Cannonballs, Hudson Highlands 11 and 16 Pounders. Two cannonballs from The Revolutionary War, unearthed in the Hudson Highlands area East of the Hudson River. This mountainous area was strategically important for the Continental Army to hold and prevent the British Army from cutting New England off from the rest of the colonies and the area the site of numerous small battles and skirmishes. Alexander White's passion for history is represented in his collection of Revolutionary War ephemera. Offered here are two massive cannonballs. The largest is over 5" in diameter and weighing 16¾ pounds. The other just over 4" in diameter and weigh 11¼ pounds, both in excellent condition with the location of their find neatly lettered on each. Note: combined shipping weight is over 28 pounds, a consideration if shipping overseas.

Collection of French & Indian War, Revolutionary War Relics including Rare Officer's Whistle. From Alexander White III collection of Revolutionary War cannonballs and grapeshot is this collection of seven examples and one fragment unearthed from the Hudson Highland, Fort Ticonderoga and Fort Montgomery areas of Northeast New York. The largest here is a 4 pounder at about 3½" in diameter down to grapeshot weighing one pound and 1½" in diameter. All are lettered with the areas from which they were found. Unique to this collection are relics from the French and Indian Wars (1754-1763) including two trade or belt axe heads, multipurpose tools for everyday use which could also be used as weapons. These axes were hand forged, made from a single piece of iron, heated and folded over a mandrel to make an eye for the handle. Both pieces are 6" long and 2" wide. Also included is what we believe to be a horse bit and a brand with the number '3' both unearthed at Crown Point. And finally a fine, rare, Revolutionary War era officer's whistle about 2" in length, made of pewter. The edges of the mouthpiece have been intentionally crimped making the whistle emit a much louder sound, with the tiny original metal ball whistle still inside chamber. Whistles from this era command anywhere from $250 to $500. This entire collection comes housed in a very old wood box of indeterminate age, outside brass hardware original, however hinges replaced, nevertheless decades ago. Wood box measures 20" x 7" x 8" and in nice, handsome condition with the usual wear and dings from age. Total shipping weight is around 16 pounds, a consideration if overseas.

Collection Revolutionary War Canonballs, Ft. Ticonderoga and Hudson Highlands. Collection of 4 Revolutionary War cannonballs (and one fragment) from the Alexander White III collection. The largest found in the Hudson Highlands area is 5¼ lbs. and 4" in diameter. The second and third are a three pounder at about 3" in diameter and a 2½ pounder at about 2½" in diameter both unearthed at Fort Ticonderoga, a star-shaped fort built in 1758 by the French at the narrows at the south end of Lake Champlain. First the site of the Battle of Carillon where 4000 French held strong against triple the amount of British. Then in 1775 a state militia under the command of Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold took over the fort from the British in a surprise attack. The smallest, likely grape shot is just over 1 pound at 1½" in diameter and the fragment likely from a five pounder are from the Hudson Highlands. All are lettered with the locations from where unearthed and all are in excellent condition (excluding the fragment.) Shipping due to weight will be modest but a consideration if shipping overseas.
