Lot 31		Group of 6 Half Cents, 1800-1804, grading G5 to VG10. Average grade is VG7. Included are 1800 C-1, 1803 C-1, 1804 C-10 (Crosslet 4 with Stems), 1804 C-11 (Plain 4 with Stems), 1804 C-12 (Crosslet 4 without Stems), and 1804 C-13 (Plain 4 without Stems with the reverse rotated 45 degrees CW). Lot 32		1802/0 C-2 R3 Overdate 2 over 0 PCGS graded VG8. Slightly glossy dark olive brown and steel with slightly lighter chocolate toning on the devices. The surfaces are smooth but there are specks of verdigris on the reverse, mostly around ITED in UNITED. Nicely struck E-MDS, Manley state 2.0. The date is bold, the legends are strong, and the overdate feature is obvious to the unaided eye. Our grade is consistent with the PCGS grade. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Lot 33		1802/0 C-2 R3 Overdate 2 over 0 G5. Several points sharper but covered with uniform fine to moderate granularity. No verdigris, and the only notable mark is a minor rim bruise just left of the date. The date is strong, the overdate feature is obvious, and the legends are complete. Dark chocolate brown and steel with lighter steel brown toning on the devices except for the cheek, which is dark steel. E-MDS, Manley state 2.0. Estimated Value $400-UP. Lot 36		1804 C-1 R3 VF30. Choice frosty olive brown and chocolate offering great eye appeal for the grade. The notable marks, and they are trivial, are a couple tiny nicks under the lowest curl and a tiny spot of reddish brown toning in the field above the bust. Lot 41		1804 C-7 R4 Spiked Chin G4. The obverse is slightly better while the reverse is a bit weaker, perhaps a 5/3 split. The planchet is covered with uniform very fine granularity. Lot 45		1804 C-11 R2 Plain 4 with Stems VF30. Rotated Reverse. Five points sharper with a few more light contact marks than you like to see for the higher sharpness grade. None of the marks is distracting and the toning is an attractive steel and chocolate brown. MDS, Manley state 2.0, with minor swelling in the center of the reverse. Lot 46		1804 C-12 R2 Crosslet 4, Stemless Wreath EF40+. Clipped Planchet. Very attractive glossy medium brown and light chocolate. The only notable mark is a thin, light nick right of the Y in LIBERTY. MDS. A minor planchet clip affects the rim under the bust tip and the opposing rim at S-O (as struck). A very attractive half cent, close to EF45. Removed from an ANACS slab graded EF45 (label #293575 included, and it shows the attribution). Estimated Value $350-UP. Lot 47		1804 C-13 R1 Plain 4, Stemless Wreath VF20. Double Struck Obverse, Reverse Brockage Maker. Glossy light to medium chocolate brown with a few small spots of darker olive brown toning on both sides. The only notable marks are a small rim nick well left of the L in LIBERTY and another over the second S in STATES. MDS. This piece was struck two times. The first impression was normal but the coin failed to eject from the coining chamber and another planchet was inserted against the reverse before the dies struck again. The result is two clear impressions on the obverse with a 10 degree rotation showing at the bust and a second eyeball on the nose. The reverse was pressed against the blank planchet during the second strike and it displays minor swelling which is typical of "brockage makers." Lot 48		1805 C-1 R2- Stemless Wreath VF25. Glossy light olive and steel brown. Very nice for the grade with just a few trivial marks. The best identifying defect is a tiny planchet lamination at the rim left of the hair ribbon. MDS, Manley state 2.0. The repunching on the 5 is clear. Lot 49		1805 C-2 R5 Small 5 with Stems PCGS graded G6. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel. The surfaces are smooth and nearly free of marks, which is quite unusual for this very tough variety. The only defect is a thin nick under the bust tip. The date is strong and the legends are complete, although HALF CENT is weak, as usual for this variety. MDS showing subtle swelling in the field before the portrait. Our grade is G5+, close to the G6 grade assigned by PCGS. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Estimated Value $1,000-UP. Lot 55		1806 C-4 R1 Repunched Large 6 with Stems EF45. Rotated Reverse. Glossy steel brown and chocolate with frosty golden light steel brown in protected areas. Essentially flawless except for some loose dirt caked around the devices. EDS, Manley state 1.0. The bust tip is not fully struck as are the top leaves of the wreath (as usual) but the strike is better than normal for the variety. The repunching on the 6 is sharp and the reverse is rotated 45 degrees CW (which caused the weakness on the bust tip). The only mark is a very faint hairline scratch in the field before the face, but it is barely visible under strong magnification. Excellent eye appeal for the grade. None of the marks is at all significant and the eye appeal remains quite nice. No roughness or verdigris. The best identifying mark is a minor planchet clip that leaves a flat spot on the rim off the bust tip, as struck. EDS, Manley state 1.0, before any visible die cracks.
