Carnelian Gold Signet Ring, ca. 1st-3rd Century AD. A deep red carnelian ring engraved with a hybrid creature, with forepart of a bull coming out of a nautilus shell, and below is a mouse or rat. The seal might make references to astrology and astronomy with all the elements of the Taurus, shell, and mouse. The stone is set in an original ancient gold setting. Fine Condition. We note some damage to the gold on the basket of the ring in two places. Measures: 5.75 ring size; Weighs: 3.9 gm.

Gold Hercules Knot Ring, ca. 1st Century AD. This beautifully intricate ring is called a knot of Hercules or marriage knot. It is a strong knot created by two intertwined ropes of gold. It originated as a healing charm in ancient Egypt, however is it best known from Greece and Rome as a protective amulet, most notably as a wedding symbol. Extremely fine. Measures: 1.5 ring size; Weighs: 3.8 gm.

A 4-piece lot of Roman Engraved Signet Seals. 1) A small oval, very finely delineated Roman (Greek?) seal of a flying insect, ca. 1st-3rd Century AD. The eyes, head, legs, joints, and wings with internal vein structure are clearly articulated. Lightly polished. Measures: 10 X 8 mm. 2) A brilliant red cornelian oval polished seal of an insect, possibly an ant with deep and finely delineated eyes, head, mandibles, pro-thorax, all perfectly centered. Roman, 1st century AD. Measures: 8 X 6.5 mm. 3) A white chalcedony oval ring stone seal engraved with the image of a pair of horned bulls, heads raised as if smelling the scent of danger, surrounded by reads and flora on a ground line. Measurements-14 X 12 X 4 mm. 4) A dark brown ring stone seal engraved with the image of two wild Asian ponies grazing on a ground line, ca 1st-3 century AD. Measurements- 15.5 X 12.5 X 4.5 mm.

Roman Gold Friendship Ring, ca. 1st-3rd Century AD. The face of it depicts two hands clasping, or showing friendship, and framed in a rectangular shape. Very Fine. Measures: 4.75 ring size; Weighs: 3.8 gm.

These rings have been common since Roman times, and in Italian and even Celtic societies. The clasping hands, or mani in fede, were used to show friendship, an agreement and most frequently as wedding rings.

Decorative Bronze Attachment, ca. 1st-3rd Centuries AD. Female head facing, with short, centrally, parted hair. From the head, in a crest-like shape, two curved volutes with raised circular protrusions, the center recurring into a double volute, each with a circular protrusion; surmounted by a partial hand. The reverse bears two partial attachment pins. These attachments were commonly found on Roman parade helmets, elaborate furniture, large bronze implements, etc. Pleasing emerald green patina. Measures: 6 X 5 cm.
