A 2-piece lot of Two Asiatic Monolithic Signet Rings. 1) A milky-white quarts finger ring, ca. 3rd-5th century AD. The ring is carved from a single stone (monolithic), the flat bezel engraved with a flowering plant, rising from container. Wearable. Measures: 5.5 ring size;Weighs: 5.8 gm.

Western Asiatic Lapis and Rock Crystal Necklace, ca. 2nd Century AD. A fine Western Asiatic necklace of alternating graduated lapis lazuli and rock crystal beads of various shapes including there sided tubular, flat tubular, round discordial corner-less beads on either side of a unique large lapis lazuli bead, entirely carved with four floral cartouches containing diamond shaped centers, strung with a double hook closure. Length: 24 in.

Sumerian. Large Alabaster Vessel, Jemdet Nasr, ca. 3500-3000 BC. A rare and large Sumerian translucent mottled alabaster vessel with hemispherical body, a shapely reversing slightly conical neck, surmounted by a broad, flat disk-like shaped lip; centered circular opening to the thin walled interior. Choice condition a few nicks at the rim, intact and free of repairs. Measures: 9.5 cm tall; Diameter: 12.5 cm.

Mesopotamian. Green Polished Axe-head, Uruk, Jemdet Nasr Period, ca. 3500-2800 BC. A fine polished green stone ceremonial axe-head of double crescentric flaring form, the sides gradually narrowing toward the center, the shaft hole; polished at both side. Such culturally early objects bearing a high degree of finish and superb condition must have had a non-destructive and ritual/symbolic function. Choice condition. Measures: 8.5 X 6 cm.

A 2-piece lot of Sumerian Cuneiform Texts. 1) Part of the rim of a large stone bowl bearing the end of a dedicatory inscription in Sumerian, ca. 2500-2350 BC. The script is an early linear version of cuneiform typically used by the ruler of a given town who had consecrated his life to the service of the g-d. The cuneiform reads "…for his life he gave." Quite rare for so early an example of writing. The cuneiform is light but discernible. Measures: 7.5 X 6.5 cm.

Published in Writing and Lettering in Antiquity by Charles Ede, Ltd., London, October 1989, Number 1.

2) An extremely fine clay tablet inscribed on both sides with seven lines of Sumerian cuneiform, ca. 2060-2010 BC. The text is a letter translated as: "Speak to Lala. Tell Ribagada to hand over the 3 gur of barley from the interrupted offerings. He must not object." Cuneiform letters are nice and crisp. Choice Condition Measures: 4.5 X 4.5 cm.

Akkadian Green Serpentine Hero Cylinder Seal, ca. 2300-2150 BC. This seal features high quality green serpentine with beautifully intricate incised details. The seal depicts two concurrent contests of strength, one between a lion and a bull-headed man and another between a bull and a man. Both bearded men, standing toward the creatures they are wrestling with their heads facing the viewer. It bears an inscription between the two men that says, "Uru, bare, daughter of Messlil, wife of …"

Blue Chalcedony Signet of Butting Winged Rams in Modern 18+ Kt Gold Setting, ca. 4th century BC. A Greco-Persian blue chalcedony scaraboid engraved with the figures of two winged mouflon rams, face to face, butting heads. Each mouflon bears a pair of finely delineated, backward sweeping horns, feathered wings, fringed mane, neck and breast, well-muscled legs and cloven feet. Mounted in a modern 18+ Kt solid gold ring. The seal itself has minor edge marks. Ring shows minor usage. Wearable. Measures: 7.5 ring size; Weighs: 14.6 gm.

Engraved with the image of a man walking left wearing a long draped and hemmed garment a brimmed hat set at a sharp angle, braid falling behind, hands raised upward. Measures: 12 X 8 mm. 2) A red carnelian polished scaraboid seal, ca. 3rd -5th century AD. The flat side is engraved with a recumbent stag with great backward sweeping antlers, decorative globules at circumference. Pierced for suspension. Measures: 8 X 10.5 mm. 3) A red carnelian oval polished ring stone seal, ca. 3rd-5th century AD. Engraved with the image of an eagle walking left on ground line. Measures: 15 X 10.5 mm.
