19th Century Map of the State of California, Territories of Oregon & Utah and Parts of New Mexico. Two beautiful hand-colored maps of the West: "A New Map Of The State Of California, The Territories Of Oregon, Washington, Utah & New Mexico". Map maker is Thomas Cowperthwait & Co, Philadelphia, 1850 and 1853; each is 16 x 13 in. The maps show the Spanish Trail, Cooke's Wagon Route, Kearney's Route, Lewis & Clarke's Canoe Route, Oregon Route, early roads, towns, Indian Tribes, mining claims, mountains and rivers, lakes etc. Early California Counties shown. Pre-Gadsden purchase border with Mexico. Nice topographical detail. Each map is individually matted to an overall size of 24 x 18 in.

Kitchin, Thomas. Four Maps for the Rev. Dr. Robertson's History of America. Published in London, 1777: 1) "Mexico, or New Spain; in which the Motions of Cortes may be traced," 11 x 14¾ in. 3½ in. diagonal tear from right margin. With inset: "Supplement of the Environs of Mexico." 2) "Map of the Gulf of Mexico, the Islands and Countries adjacent," 12¼ x 10 in.; diagonal 3¾ in. tear from right margin. 3) "Map of South America," 17½ x 12¾ in. Tears and old tape marks to right side, most in background. 4) "Map of the Countries on the South Sea from Panama to Guayquil," 14½ x 9½ in. All four maps have small decorative title cartouches. All are in simple wood frames. Not viewed out of frames.
