Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 2153
1907. High Relief, Roman Numerals, Flat Rim. PCGS graded MS-64. Lovely golden toning. The flat rim refers to the collar that was used to strike these, on this particular coin the rim produced is flat, the majority of the High Relief coins were struck with a wire edge which formed when metal was forced up during the multiple strikes between the collar and the die. These flat rim coins are about three to five times as scarce as the wire edge design. Naturally the multiple strikes induced incredible luster and amazing three dimensional depth on the coins struck, which has kept these scarce coins high on the want list of most numismatists. There simply isn't anything like them from this era in our history. Why not add this alluring near gem to your collection today? (PCGS # 9136) .
Estimated Value $21,000 - 22,000.

Lot 2154
1907. High Relief, Roman Numerals, Flat Rim. PCGS graded MS-62. CAC Approved. A very choice example with unusually clean surfaces on both sides. A few scattered faint marks appear about the rims but far more appealing than one would expect for this historic and highly collectible issue. The Flat Rim style is much scarcer than the Wire Rim design. The High relief, Roman numerals double eagles have long been regarded as our most beautiful coin ever struck for circulation. Most were saved from the time they were released, but careless handling has certainly diminished their numbers. A highly collectible and attractive example of this coveted issue (PCGS # 9136) .
Estimated Value $15,000 - 17,000.

1909-S. PCGS graded MS-65. A nice untoned example. This date and mint is moderately scarce at the gem grade as offered here, but is truly rare any finer. Despite a number of hoards appearing over the last few generations, most of these coins fall into lower mint state grades. Hence date and mint collectors try to obtain a gem grade coin if they can pursue a nice example like this piece. Boldly struck throughout, with the usual rounded rims typical of San Francisco double eagles of this period. Pop 327; 18 finer, 7 in 65+, 10 in 66, 1 in 67. (PCGS # 9153) .

1913. NGC graded MS-65. Frosty with a hint of gold tone. This is a scarce date in lower mint state grades, especially up to the choice level. However, finer pieces at mint state-64 become challenging for most collectors. Gems like this require patience and fairly deep pockets to secure, as only a few dozen exist. This date and mint has long been known as one of the most difficult to secure at the gem grade and collectors search long and hard to find an appealing specimen with outstanding surfaces, just like this one being offered. An opportunity for knowledgeable numismatist. Pop 19; 1 finer in 66. (PCGS # 9161) .
