Lot 1688
1842-D. NGC graded AU-58. Untoned with residual luster in the protected areas. A condition rarity in all grades, this example one of the finer pieces seen today in numismatic circles from the popular Dahlonega Mint. The 18 of the date is repunched low, and the fields and devices show a few shallow marks when closely examined. Only 4,643 struck. Pop 9; 4 finer, 3 in 61, 1 in 62. (PCGS # 7725) .
Estimated Value $15,000 - 16,000.

Lot 1689
1842-D. PCGS graded AU-53. Untoned, with typical orange-gold shades throughout. The strike is reasonably sharp too, with Liberty offering nearly full definition on her curls and the eagle's feathers too. The original mintage of 4,643 pieces suffered the expected high attrition rate, and today there are less than 100 examples known. This issue is nearly as rare as the famed 1840-D, and is one of the toughest to find above EF from the Dahlonega Mint. Pop 5; 12 finer, 7 in 55, 5 in 58. (PCGS # 7725) .
Estimated Value $7,000 - 8,000.

1881. NGC graded Proof 66 Ultra Cameo. Only 51 minted. A Gem Ultra Cameo Proof that offers rich copper-gold hues, bold mirror fields and glorious frost on the devices. This proof finish is so dramatic on these ultra cameo pieces that one has to consider them to be the most beautiful of these early proof gold rarities. While proof gold coinage is also beautiful, its the dramatic effect of the depth of the mirror fields that stands so tall when contrasted against the frosted devices. Among the Finest Known of this low mintage date which is seldom found at all. A wonderful coin. Pop 3; none finer at NGC .
