Lot 1856
1834. No Motto. NGC graded MS-64 Star. Small Head, Large Arrowheads. Fully reflective fields are seen on each side, and obviously this example features a very early strike. This die pair is known to have produced proofs this year, and much of the die polish remained intact when this piece was struck. Frosted devices of Liberty's head and the eagle, along with the stars and legends further impart a partial cameo effect. The strike is exceptionally sharp on Liberty's curls, areas that are commonly found lacking in depth but not at all here. The fragile surfaces are very clean with only a few minor handling marks, but nothing singularly mentionable. Light yellow-golden toning overlays the underlying surfaces that impart a slight greenish hue. This is a remarkably preserved example for the astute numismatist who appreciates high quality. Pop 6; 16 finer (PCGS # 7692) .
Estimated Value $10,000 - 12,000.
