Lot 1216
1892-O. PCGS graded MS-66. The surfaces are snow-white and deeply frosted on this premier-year New Orleans Barber dime issue. Usually O-mint coins are found with a more subdued, satiny texture, however, on this example, both sides are gleaming white with no trace of color. The strike details are fully brought up, another uncommon trait for a New Orleans coin from this era. We theorize this one might have been a very early strike that has been carefully preserved over the years. Pop 7; 4 finer, 3 in 66+, 1 in 67. (PCGS # 4797) .
Estimated Value $3,200 - 3,400.

1897. NGC graded Proof 68 Cameo. CAC Approved. The fields are deeply mirrored and the devices noticeably frosted as expected of the Superb grade assignment and Cameo designation. In fact, a truly remarkable effect is noticed when the coin is turned under a light. Light golden and ice-blue toning is seen over each side, sometimes mottled, sometimes smoothly textured. A colorfully toned extremely high-grade type coin. This is certainly one of the finest of the 731 proof Barber dimes struck in 1897. Pop 3; 2 finer in 68 Star .
Estimated Value $8,000 - 8,500.

1907-D. PCGS graded MS-67. CAC Approved. PQ. Exquisitely toned with mottled gold, blue-green, and russet and traces of silver-gray remaining. The appearance is very attractive and very original. Nicely struck and exhibiting superb luster on both sides. Among the finest survivors, and for any collector seeking the date, who also appreciates beautiful toning, this might be the very best survivor. The Mint at Denver Colorado struck a total of just over 4 million Barber dimes in 1907, the second year of coinage operations at that facility. Small change was badly needed in the West at that time and the coins circulated heavily when released. Few examples were saved by contemporary collectors. As a result, research has shown the 1907-D is one of the most difficult Denver Mint issues of the series to locate in Mint State conditions, especially as a Superb Gem. Pop 2; 1 finer in 67+. (PCGS # 4843) .
Estimated Value $18,000 - 19,000.

1909-D. NGC graded MS-67. The lowest production of all Denver Mint Barber dimes was the 954,000 piece delivery of the 1909-D. Both sides are toned in coruscant reddish-golden hues, and the frosted luster is complemented with a bold strike throughout. A couple of tiny abrasions on the obverse are hidden by the toning. This is tied as the finest 1909-D dime certified by both of the major grading services. An amazing coin that is nearly impossible to replace. Pop 2; none finer at NGC. Tied for the finest graded by both services .

1913. NGC graded MS-67. The 1913 Barber dime, with a mintage approaching 20 million pieces, is readily available in all grades through MS-65. However, Superb Gems, such as the current offering, are seldom encountered and highly regarded within the collecting public. Soft champagne-gold toning is accented with subtle ice-blue, and sharp detail is seen on the devices. Both sides are immaculately preserved. This one is unimprovable in grade at NGC. Pop 4; none finer at NGC. Tied for the finest graded by both services.
