Lot 935
1882, Brown Back $5 National Bank Note. The National City Bank of New York, NY, Ch#1461. PCGS Choice About New 55PPQ. Fr-469. KL-1117. While a single crease just to the right of center defines the grade, this Brown Back Five is about as attractive as one could ever want. The colors are amazing, the margins and centering are well above average, and the eye appeal is top notch. The embossing and originality are evident through the PCGS holder. An outstanding note that matches many with higher technical grades, and one that won't break the collecting budget.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500.

1902, Plain Back $5 National Bank Note. The First NB, Honolulu, HI, Ch#5550. PMG Extremely Fine 40EPQ. Fr-607. KL-1164. While most Territorial NBns carry a five-figure price tag, large size notes from this relatively common Hawaii bank can be obtained by most budget-constrained collectors. This is a pretty, fully original example with just a few folds and minor signs of circulation that define the grade, and it is much nicer than the average note found from here which tends to be in lower grades.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000.

1902, Date Back $10 National Bank Note. The Farmers NB, Springfield, OH, Ch#9446. PMG Choice About Uncirculated 58EPQ. Fr-618. KL-1221. While there are about 15 examples extant from this large size-only bank, this is the only serial number 1 reported. A single corner bend prevents a much higher grade.
Estimated Value $5,500 - 7,000.

Lot 938
1902, Plain Back $10 National Bank Note. The First NB, South Pasadena, CA, Ch#8544. Very Fine-Extremely Fine. Fr-626. KL-1230. This incredible and unique "discovery" note is the first to appear on the market from this Los Angeles-area bank. While the bank seems to have issued plenty of notes, a total of $264, 650 in face value from 1907 until its close in 1922, collectors have never yet had an opportunity to obtain one. It is a bright, crisp example with several folds that define the grade, and it's fully original with fantastic pen signatures. Estimating this rarity is difficult, since only one bidder can be successful and there are likely to be many collectors who will compete for this prize, but if recent history is any guide we could see our estimate far surpassed before the hammer falls.
Estimated Value $40,000 - 50,000.

Lot 939
1902, Plain Back $10 National Bank Note. The First NB, Moore, MT, Ch#8539. Very Fine. Fr-626. KL-1230. This is an exciting note from a tiny Fergus County community in central Montana that has a current population of less than 200 residents. It is the only note reported from this bank, which opened in 1907 and was liquidated in 1923. The note itself is a pleasing circulated example with no major flaws, and bold "vanity" signatures add to the eye appeal. "Trophy notes" like this are seldom available at any price, and only one strong-willed collector can take this note home. A picture post card featuring the town main street, including the bank of issue, is included with this lot.
Estimated Value $15,000 - 20,000.
