Lot 904
Cased Set of English Flintlock Pistols. A wonderful antique cased pair of English Flintlock pistols by GAMESON & Co., LONDON, c. 1800-1810. They have 6 1/8" 64 cal. smooth bore octagon barrels with engraved patent breech, platinum vents, and a single platinum band at the breech; engraved 'LONDON' is on the top flat. Both retain 80-90% of the orginal finish. Each lock in its original flintlock configuration with sliding safety; engraved lock plates and hammers; maker's name; 'GAMESON & Co. and high quality roller frizzen springs. The steel furniture has high grade decorative engraving, and the trigger guards have pineapple finials. Steel captive swivel ram rods. Silver barrel key escutcheons and oval wrist escutcheons (vacant). The high quality burl walnut stocks have micro checkered grips---solid with scratches and dings from years of handling. Each pistol measures 11¼" in length. A fine cased pair of pistols!

Pistols are housed in an original period gun box with the trade label made by 'WESTLEY RICHARDS,/ Gun Manufacturer/ To His Royal Highness/ Price Albert/170 New Bond Street/LONDON'. Original green baize interior with some edge losses from wear. Box measures 13 3/4" x 8" x 2 3/8".

Note: The pistols fit the box perfectly but it is of our opinion that this pair of pistols was married to this box.
Accessories include: A fine powder flask, bullet mold, pewter oil bottle, turn screw, tow, patches, and 2 calibers of lead balls.

Cased Pair of German Flintlock Holster Pistols. An antique cased pair of German flintlock holster pistols by 'KUCHENREUTER', c. 18th century. They have 10" .52 cal. octagon-to-round barrels with gold filled barrel mark and decorative inlaid silver wire and makers name; 'JOH AND KUCHENREUTER' (both barrels are pitted). There are round face locks with remnants of the maker's signature with set triggers. Plain brass furniture. The stocks have a nice high relief decorative carving and are solid. Some scratches and dings from years of handling. Both pistols are in good working order. A beautiful pair of pistols!

Original period box with original green baize interior (some restorations). Measures 9"x 17 3/4".
Accessories include; 2 powder flasks, a bullet mold, lead balls, funnel, tow, extra flints, turn-screw, and cleaning rod.

French/American Colonial Restock of a French Pattern 1763 Flintlock Pistol. French/American Colonial Flintlock pistol, c. 1763, restocked in the colonies c. 1770s. Originally a French Military model 1763 flintlock pistol with a 12". 73 cal. barrel that was most likely French arsenal reduced to 9", tang marked; "M 1763" (a line can be seen on the top of the barrel where the brass military barrel band used to be). Lock is marked; "Mf. de. Libravelle" (French arsenal). Original French M 1763 furniture; butt cap, trigger guard and side plate, all marked; "L2" (re-used). The colonial additions; brass muzzel half-band, steel entry pipe and brass lower ramrod pipe. Incised carving on the stock is somewhat Germanic/Dutch style, indicating possible Pennsylvania area. A chip of wood is missing from the top of the rear of the lock mortis. Otherwise, the stock is solid. 16" total length. In good working order.

Civil War Era 1863 U.S. Colt Musket. 58 Caliber Colt Musket, single shot, muzzle loader, made under Federal contract 1861-65. Standard 40" barrel, three barrel bands, oil-stained walnut stock. Lock plate is stamped, "U.S. / Colt's PT F.A. Mfg Co / Hartford, CT" with "1863" stamped behind the hammer. Rod is present, minor spots on white metal, stock is fine. Overall in fine condition. Accompanied by "American Powder Mills, Office No. 233 State St., Boston" round gunpowder container, tin, Height: 11", Diameter: 6", Circumference: 18.84".

Combination Pocket Knife and Pistol. Nick-named the 'Self Protector' and made by Unwin & Rogers, England. Approximately .30 cal. horn grip scales (one with crack). 3" smooth-bore barrel with Birmingham Proofs. Drop trigger. Knife blade has salt and pepper pitting. Also, there are built in tweezers. Barrel length 3" small bore percussion. In good mechanical working order. Measures 6" or 8½" with knife blade.

British Military Light Dragoon Flintlock Pistol. An antique British Military Light Dragoon Flintlock Pistol by "HENSHAW, LONDON", c. 1770-1780 with a 9" .67 cal. round steel barrel marked with (2) proofs and engraved "LONDON." Lock with simple borderline engraving and maker engraved; "HENSHAW." All steel/iron parts have light to moderate salt and pepper pitting. Heavy brass furniture. The stock is solid with normal scratches and dings from years of service. There is a "Y" marked on the left side plate. In good working order. This type was used during the American Revolution and the War of 1812.

Saber Bayonet, Bowie Knife and Enfield Socket Bayonet. Three items: 1) Civil War Navy Rifle Saber Bayonet, 21½" blade, 5" brass handle. Flat base of handle is stamped "N', "8" and "16". Retainer spring and pin through handle are missing. Tip of blade broken. 2) Large D-Guard Bowie Knife, 19½" blade, 4" original Stag handle, total length 25". During the Civil War this Bowie Knife style was designed specifically for hand-to-hand combat by adding the protective brass wrap-around hand D-guard. 3) Enfield Socket Bayonet and Scabbard. Bayonet length 20½", "E 20" stamped at base, "1, 22, 45" stamped on socket barrel. Leather scabbard length 18¼", "1864 GA" stamped on brass base fitting. Scabbard nib stamped "28 415". Overall condition good to very good.

Three Civil War Sabers. 1) Non-Commissioned Officers Sword, overall length 39", dated "1864", blade stamped "U.S." with the initials "G.W.C." for the U.S. Government Inspector, blade verso stamped "Ames Mfg., Chicopee, Mass."; 2) U.S. Navy Civil War Officer's Sword, overall length 33", c. 1860s, blade stamped "Ames Mfg. Co., Chicopee, Mass." Blade is scuffed and pitted, markings are worn down. Sword handle splitting along left side.; 3) Model 1840 Cavalry Officer's Saber with Iron Scabbard, saber overall length 41", scabbard length 37". Blade and scabbard show extensive use and wear, leather handle split down the back. This grouping of sabers looks to have certainly seen their use in battle. Overall in good to very good condition.

Includes unusual examples of discovery of bullets fused from impact in wood bark of trees; a wide diversity of types and calibre of bullets and smooth bore balls and three excellent examples of varying one inch Iron Caltrops, used to injure and foul the hooves of cavalry horses.
