Larege Iron Age (Hamentashen) Oil Lamp, ca. 1200- 560 BC. This is a simple oil lamp formed from a bowl shape with one side pinched twice, giving the appearance of a shell or hamentashen. Alder Collection Cf. 9-18. Unusual because of its large size and perfectly intact without chips or breaks. Diameter: 8 ½"; Length: 7".

Cypriot Terracotta Jug, or Bilbil, ca. 1550-1200 BC. A late bronze age terracotta vessel with a bulbous body, cylindrical neck and slightly flared lip rim and base. It is decorated with one handle and ornamented by two raised rings on neck and a simple raised spiral design on both sides of the body. Minor chips in base and rim. Height: 11".

Canaanite Bone Doll Carving, 1st - 5th Century AD. A bone carved figure with perforations on the sides for arm attachments. On back there is a stamp of Solomon from the Israel Museum. Length: 5 ¼"; Width: 1".

Terracotta Pomegranate Rattle, ca. 8th - 7th Century BC. Heavy hollow rattle in the form of a pomegranate, used for ceremonial purposes; smoothed sides and crown topped with unknown objects inside, which produce the rattle sound. Slight cracking visible on bottom and some of the calyx or crown part of the piece is missing. An extrordinary and rare piece in excellent condition. Height: 3 ¾".

Pomegranates are significant in Jewish traditions and are mentioned in the Torah on several occasions. They are also a symbol of fertility because of the abundance of seeds they carry.

Roman Cornucopiae Oil Lamp with Menorah Stamp Hidden on Base, ca. 1st - 2nd Century AD. Round lamp with two cornucopia design on discus; double volute on neck and loop handle. The really spectacular aspect of the lamp is a Latin stamp, CCLQSVC, with a small menorah imprint below. Superb condition, some yellow slip residue, and completely intact. First of these we have ever encountered.

Menorah Discus Lamp, ca. 2nd - 3rd Century AD. A late Roman discus lamp, made locally in Judea. Small round lamp with a knob handle and a extremely small filling hole. The discus is decorated with a large distinct menorah and five dots by the wick hole. Extremely well defined menorah and the whole piece is completely intact. Cf. Alder Collection R.3. Mold-Blown Glass Vessel with Menorah and Grain Ear Reliefs, Byzantine Era, ca. 5th - 6th Century AD. Rectangular glass mold-blown vessel with handle and funnel mouth; distinct menorah relief on two opposing sides and wheat grain ear on other opposing sides. The piece is covered with opaque iridescence fabulously reflecting all the colors of the rainbow, with an emphasis on green, blue, and purple shades. Expert restoration to small break at rim. This is a spectacular, strictly Jewish artifact, made during the period of art dedicated predominately to Christian art. Length: 2 inches (5 cm); Width: 2 inches (5 cm); Height: 3 ¾ inches (9.5 cm).

Incantation Bowl, ca. 6th - 7th Century AD. Ceramic bowl with Hebrew inscription, radiating from center and around rims; in center, depiction of a female demon, possibly Lilith. Completely intact. Diameter: 4 ½".

Incantation bowls were a mystic tradition in the Middle East to protect people from maleficent forces, such as sorcerers, curses, spirits, the evil eye and demons. These bowls were inscribed and buried upside-down in homes and graves. These bowls were used in Babylonia by Christians, Mazedeans, Mandeans, Zoroastrians, and Jews.

Common during the Umayyad Period, identifiable by its pear shape with a conical knob handle and high rim around filling hole to wick hole with a deep trench between the two holes. Decorated with a geometric pattern on shoulders. Intact with some signs of use. Length: 3 ¾ "; Width: 2 ½"; Height: 1 ½".
