KY, Louisville, 1882, $10.00, Brown Back, The American National Bank of. . Fr-6064. Charter 4956. Fr. 487. With only 7 notes reported on this institution, we are lucky to have 2 notes. The bank was organized in 1894 and in 1915, it absorbed the Southern National Bank of that city, which created a change in title to The American Southern National Bank. However, it was all over by early 1919 as the bank closed it's doors forever. Very Good.

KY, Louisville, 1882, $20.00, Brown Back, The American National Bank of. . Fr-6065. Charter 4956. Fr. 501. An impressive Brown Back, with good margins and nice color. Very Fine+.

What is very interesting about this note is that it has a different title layout than the above $10.00 Brown Back. Most of the time, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing would make all the layouts the same on the sheets. This note came from a 10-10-10-20 sheet and thus should have the same layout as the $10.00's. Both the $10.00 and the $20.00 are from the "A" position and would eliminate the suggestion of a replacement plate. The $10.00 has the mid-1890's style of lettering, while the $20.00 has the style of the early to mid-1880's. An appealing item for the specialist.
Estimated Value $450 - 550.

KY, Louisville, 1882, $100.00, Brown Back, The Louisville National Banking Company. . Fr-6069. Charter 5161. Fr. 530. With 20 or so banks that issued Brown Back $100.00's in the state, one almost never sees them. In fact, it seems that all $50.00 and $100.00 Brown Backs have all but dried up. 5,267 notes were issued between 1898 and 1908. John H. Leatters signed as president. We are unable to decipher the cashier's signature. As to the grade, John Hickman said it best for a note like this. We're sure that he would agree with us, gradin Fine.

NY, Lindenhurst, 1902, $10.00, Red Seal, The First National Bank of. . Fr-6094. Charter 8833. Fr. 615. A great "trophy" note with wonderful stats on the bank. Organized on July 8, 1907, the bank was issued its charter in August. Only 200 sheets of Red Seal notes were issued and this is serial number 2! Over the life time of the bank, the institution issued a mere $108,050.00 worth of currency, which in 1935, the meager amount of $430.00 was outstanding!

With beautiful pen signatures of George Pebler, cashier and C.C. Abbott, president. Uncirculated.

Like in real estate, nationals are location, location, location. This note is very much like a solid square block of any metropolitan financial district. May it be New York, San Francisco or even Chicago it's the location. Lindenhurst is located in Suffolk County, and has the current population of just over 27,000.
