Printed on watermarked paper is one, while the blue security staining running along the full length of the bottom margin in another. Choice Uncirculated.

  Fr. 29, 1880, $1.00 United States Note. . Fr-29. An extraordinary display, professionally framed with archival materials. The telegram is from the Treasury Department and best explains this lot.

"Washington, D.C., Jan 26, 1882.

From Bu. Eng. & Ptg
To W.P. Tilant Esq
Deputy Register
The first U.S. legal tender note printed with signature of Hon. B.K. Bruce as Register of Treasury was one dollar note number nineteen million nine hundred sixty four thousand and one (19964001). There was three additional notes on the same sheet printed at the same time numbered respectfully 19964002, 19964003 and 19964004. Will you please ask Register Bruce to secure one of those and hold it for me. They are in the reserve vault U.S. Treasury.

Along with the telegram there is a note from the Assistant Register, Titcomb.

"This $1= Note is one of the four on the first sheet issued bearing the name of B.K. Bruce as Register.

W.P. Titcomb, Asst. Register

March 1882."

The note appears to be Choice Uncirculated, but without removing it from the display we are unable to ascertain its true grade.

  Fr. 190b, 1864, $10.00 Compound Interest Treasury Note. . Fr-190b. Fine overall, but a small nick out of the Treasury Seal is noticeable.

S.P. Chase who adorns this note was Lincoln's Secretary of the Treasury when this note was printed and issued. Chase was a very hard liner of the G.O.P. and to help seduce him of his political ambitions, he was named to the U.S. Supreme Court in later years.

  CA, Los Angeles, Personal Leather Wallet of A. Hadley, Cashier. . Fr-6024B. The National Bank of California at Los Angeles. Circa 1910s. Stamped in gold, "A. Hadley" on one side of the interior cover while the other side is stamped "The National Bank of California Los Angeles, California."

A. Hadley was the son of Washington Hadley and father of Fred Hadley. A. Hadley was a native of Indiana and began his banking experience at Rockville, in 1864. Later he was in the banking business at Lawrence, Kansas, and in 1889 came to California. He was the assistant cashier and then cashier of The National Bank of California at Los Angeles (Charter 4096). At Whittier, he served successively as cashier, vice president and at the time of his death was president of The First National Bank.

  Rare Grinnell Paper Money Storage Book. . Fr-6109. A storage book that once housed Albert A. Grinnell's personal paper money collection. Many of Grinnell's notes that were sold in the late 1940s by Barney Bluestone have never been seen since by the collecting fraternity. The book has been embossed on the cover in gold Grinnell's name.
