Collection of five items: typed letter signed, June 5, 1959, 5½ x 9", on Supreme Court letterhead; typed letter signed, May 3, 1962, 5½ x 9", on Supreme Court letterhead; typed letter signed, October 17, 1989, 8½ x 11", on Supreme Court letterhead; Signed Supreme Court card, 3 x 5"; signed photo, 3 x 5", mounted on 4 x 6" card, signed on the lower mount. All in fine condition.

Clark, annotated and signed twice, full signature and initials "TCC"; Clark has also affixed a small, stamp-size picture of himself to the card, adding a sweet personal touch; John Paul Stevens, with envelope; Byron R. White, with envelope; Lewis F. Powell, Jr. dated 4/22/74; James Clark McReynolds, and Harlan F. Stone. Including two signed photographs, one of William H. Rehnquist, 5 x 7", black & white, signed lower center border; and Harlen F. Stone, sepia toned, 4 x 6"; Stone is pictured with American war hero, Patrick J. Hurley--signed by both on the lower margin. All in fine condition.

Frankfurter, Felix (1882-1965) Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court (1939-62). He helped found the American Civil Liberties Union and was a noted advocate of judicial restraint in the judgments of the Court.

Autograph letter signed, 2pp, on Supreme Court stationery, 2pp, 6½ x 4¼", Washington, D.C., May 21, 1940. Matted with a portrait of Frankfurter and framed to 24 x 19¼". Letter is fine; frame needs replacing. Congratulating a friend on his marriage. In part: "…Someday we hope to know your Elinor. For the moment we invoke the mercies of the world on you both. You were sweet to think of us--and we regret that we shall have to be elsewhere on your great day. Come and see us here one of these days and bring your bride…."

Taney, Roger Brooke (1777-1864) Fifth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (1836-1864). He is most remembered for delivering the majority opinion in Dred Scott v. Sanford (1857), that ruled, among other things, that African-Americans, having been considered inferior at the time the constitution was drafted, were not part of the original community of citizens and, whether FREE or SLAVE, could not be considered citizens of the United States.

Autographed document signed, c. 1812, one page, 7½ x 12½", small tear upper right border. Taney pleads for the return of his client's goods and chattel, together with all costs and charges. Good condition.

The Warren Burger Court. Vignette of the U.S. Supreme Court signed by the nine justices on the Burger Court from 1969-1981: Warren E. Burger, Harry A. Blackmun, Lewis F. Powell, Jr., William H. Rehnquist, Byron White, Potter Stewart, Thurgood Marshall, William J. Brennan, and John Paul Stevens, 6 x 8", signed between 1969 and 1981. Warren Burger was chief justice from 1969 to 1986, but justice Potter Stewart retired in 1981 and was replaced by the first woman justice, Sandra Day O'Connor. Fine condition.

Woodbury, Levi (1789-1851) Associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Senator, Governor of New Hampshire and cabinet member in three administrations.

Partly-printed document signed as Secretary of the Treasury, 1p, with docket on p4, 10 x 7¾" (Washington) 7 Aug. 1840. To New York Commissioners Jesse Hoyt, W.S. Coe & B. F. Butler, approving a claim of $134.05 by Parker Howard & Co., based upon a July 1838 Act of Congress entitled "An act to remit the duties upon certain goods destroyed by fire at the late conflagration in the city of New York." The fire began on 16 Dec. 1835, and burned from Fulton Street, near Manhattan's southern end, to the east shore of the island. Much of Wall Street was destroyed, including the Stock Exchange and much of Manhattan's financial and commercial center. Minor tape repairs on verso and some soiling to integral leaf. Bold signature.
