Lot 322
1793 S-5 R4 Wreath Cent with Large LIBERTY, Vine & Bars Edge F15. Sharpness near VF30 but the planchet is covered with uniform faint microscopic granularity. No verdigris and the only mark is a tiny streak of reddish planchet slag between the feet of the 7 & 9 in the date, as struck. Both sides were lightly burnished and retoned an attractive natural-looking glossy olive brown with lighter steel brown toning on the highpoints. Nicely struck and well centered on the planchet. EDS but not quite the earliest with dentils fused over LI but not over BER, Breen state II early. This cent offers excellent eye appeal in spite of the surface issues.
Estimated Value $3,000-UP.

Lot 326
1793 S-10 R4 Wreath Cent, Vine & Bars Edge G5. Several points sharper but the edge was carefully tapped all the way around both sides creating a high rim. Very light roughness covers the fields and protected areas on both sides. No verdigris, but there are a few contact marks. The notable ones are a horizontal nick on the forehead, a pair of large, dull vertical nicks in the center of the obverse, and two more large nicks at the top of the reverse. Recolored a mostly glossy dark steel and chocolate. The date is complete and clear and the legends are easily readable. Far from perfect but far from horrible, too.

Lot 327
1793 S-11a R4+ Wreath Cent, Vine & Bars Edge G6. Slightly sharper but lightly cleaned and retoned glossy chocolate and dark steel brown. No roughness or verdigris and only a few small marks. The notable ones are a planchet chip on the cheek, another in the field behind the portrait, and a third on the rim right of the bust tip, plus an old, light scratch slanting across EN in CENT. The date is complete and clear and the legends are readable except for the fraction due to a weak strike at the bottom of the reverse. Actually quite nice for the grade in spite of the retoning.

A couple other minor laminations are present as well, but they are not significant. The surfaces are mostly smooth but there is some roughness in protected areas on the reverse, mostly inside the wreath. Lightly cleaned and retoned glossy dark steel and olive brown. EDS, Breen state I, before any die clashmarks. The date and legends are strong, and the Lettered Edge inscription is complete.

No verdigris and only a few minor marks, including a thin planchet fissure over the ON in ONE and a very thin planchet void between the T & A in STATES. Slightly glossy chocolate and steel. Possibly cleaned and retoned long ago, and there is a swipe of lacquer at the bottom of the reverse. MDS, Breen state II, with die clashmarks in the field at the throat.
