Lot 1493
1893. PCGS graded Proof 65+DCAM. Only 792 struck. A marvelous gem example. To say that this is an impressive gem tells only part of the story, with brilliant reflective luster and a bit of lavender-gold toning accents at the rims, the coin rocks. Representative strike for the date, meaning razor-sharp at the head and eagle with all stars resplendent and the legends also crisply formed by a dual strike from the dies. Proofs were struck on the Mint's medal press, which gave a uniform squeeze to the planchets, thereby imparting all of their most minute detail to the struck coin. Solid Gem quality-plus where objective standards are concerned. Subjectively, this Barber Half Dollar is downright gorgeous.Pop 3; 6 finer, 2 in 66, 2 in 67, 2 in 67+ (PCGS # 96540) Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,500

Lot 1495
1906. NGC graded MS-65. Well struck and intensely lustrous with some mottled toning on both sides. Pop 15; none finer at NGC .
Historical note: Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1906, old photographs from the period show that there was still a preponderance of horse drawn carriages, wagons and carts at this time, with now and then a new-fangled horseless carriage in the picture. Newspaper columnists like H.L. Mencken welcomed the arrival of automobiles since they displaced the horseflies, the stench of in-town stables, and the problem of what to do with all the "leavings" of the horses, a major clean-up operation in metropolitan cities in those days. Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500

Lot 1496
1911. PCGS graded Proof 66+ Cameo. Lovely light rainbow toning around the edge. Because so few Proof examples of this issue were produced, we doubt that many can equal or surpass this for overall quality and eye appeal. The mintage of this issue is the one of the lower mintages of the series. This Proof 66 Cameo half dollar sparkles with originality, a prime example of the date to be certified. This is an outstanding Cameo Proof with brilliant surfaces and frosted devices that accompany the lovely toning. Only 543 struck. Pop 2; 5 finer, 4 in 67, 1 in 68. (PCGS # 86558) Estimated Value $6,000 - 6,500
