1913. PCGS graded Proof 64 Red & Brown. A beauty! Only 2,848 struck. The surface on these attractive Proofs is the result of buffing the hubs to remove cutting burs from the reducing lathe. The ever-changing sandblast pieces were made by taking a satin Proof coin as it came off the dies and lightly sandblasting it in a separate process. The officials at the Philadelphia mint decided they could not make brilliant Proof Lincolns like those in the previous Indian head series, and wanted something distinctive for collectors. Different degrees of sandblast application created a wide range of appearances, even within some individual years. Pop 135; 95 finer. (PCGS # 3316) Estimated Value $350 - 400
