Lot 2152

Desirable with this meticulous strike. Pop 342; 16 finer, 5 in 64+, 10 in 65, 1 in 67. (PCGS # 8511) Estimated Value $2,500 - 2,600

Lot 2153
1908-D. PCGS graded MS-63. CAC Approved. First year issue. When Bela Lyon Pratt's new Indian head motif was launched upon the American waters in 1908, the public was surprised (to put it mildly). Never before in American numismatics had a coin designer broken with tradition in such an overt way as did Pratt. For what Pratt did was to recess the design below the surface of the coin! Forget the fact that his Half Eagles and Quarter Eagles were far more aesthetically challenging than the long-running and tired-appearing Liberty heads they replaced. Unlike his predecessors, Pratt chose to honor a real American Indian for a change, not some made-up Greek goddess wearing an incongruous Indian headdress. And because of this, his design helped to propel American coin design into the World Class league (PCGS # 8511) Estimated Value $1,300 - 1,400

Lot 2155
1909-D. PCGS graded MS-63. CAC Approved. Well struck and lustrous. Due to the appearance of several 1909-D rolls in years gone by, this date is preferred by affordability minded Type Set buyers (PCGS # 8514) Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,100

Lot 2156
1909-D. PCGS graded MS-63. CAC Approved. Another choice, lustrous example of the most plentiful issue in the short Indian Half Eagle series (1908-29 with a large gap in 1917-28 when none were issued) (PCGS # 8514) Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,100

Lot 2157
1913. PCGS graded MS-64. Nice and frosty, delicately toned. Bright with gold-on-gold somersaulting luster whose radiance on both sides of this cleanly untoned Indian five must be seen to be appreciated. A munificent strike, as well as freedom from clash marks or heavy bagmarking which occurs all too often. And that is why this is a coin to jump at before it's sale is history (PCGS # 8525) Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,100
