Lot 466
1835 N-9 R4 Head of 1834 with Large 8 and Stars F15. Slightly sharper with extremely fine granularity covering the fields and protected areas on both sides. No verdigris and only a few trivial contact marks, including dull rim nicks at stars 3 & 5. Rather glossy dark olive brown with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. E-MDS. A light die crack meanders through the tops of ERIC.
Estimated Value $250-UP.

Lot 467
1835 N-10 R4+ Head of 1834 VF30. Glossy reddish steel brown and chocolate. The planchet is smooth and attractive. The only marks of any consequence are a shallow planchet flake right of star 4 and another under star 1, both as struck. E-MDS. The die crack at NITED-ST is clear but not strong. In addition, the blundered E in CENT (first punched into the die inverted, then corrected) is clear. This "blundered E" feature is present in all the die states of the variety, but you seldom find an example sharp enough to show it clearly. Certainly in the condition census for this tough variety.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.

Lot 469
1835 N-13 R4 Double Struck VG7. Glossy olive brown and steel mixed with lighter chocolate brown. No roughness or notable marks. Double struck with a rotation of 5-10 degrees between the two impressions. The reverse was struck against the die both times and evidence of the first strike is clearly visible at STATES OF AMERICA. The obverse was struck against the die on the first strike and against a blank planchet positioned about 10% off center to K-7.5 on the second strike, thereby creating an off-center obverse brockage on the new planchet. Another obvious mint error, one that is easy to "noodle through" to figure out what happened at the mint.
Estimated Value $100-UP.

The die lines at ERIC are gone but the dentils still show all the way around the obverse. This is Newcomb's old #8. Our grade is AU50.
