Lot 1650
1879-CC $10 Liberty. NGC graded EF-40. Only 1,762 pieces struck. Mostly untoned with some luster still evident. This is near the top end of the readily affordable specimens, in higher grade the price escalates. The stunning Bass coin graded AU-55, for example, and is almost certainly the finest known, realized $48,300 many years ago. Mintage was small, with the usual survival rate of around one percent, that leaves about 25 to 40 coins for today's collectors to fight over. This splendid EF coin will certainly attract considerable attention and will no doubt be highly regarded by its new owner and others. Another desirable Carson City rarity. Pop 11; 20 finer (PCGS # 8684) .
Estimated Value $7,000 - 8,000.

1880-CC $10 Liberty. PCGS graded AU-58. CAC Approved. Nice golden toning. Only 11,190 minted. A bright and gleaming still-frosty AU58 whose underlying luster seems poised to bring forth the full consequence of the grade for all to admire, plus we find a touch of natural old-gold color, especially on the reverse. Adequately struck with nearly full details on both sides. Definitely a scarce CC-mint issue. Pop 15; 3 finer, 2 in 60, 1 in 61 (PCGS # 8688) .
Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,500.

1882-CC $10 Liberty. PCGS graded AU-58. Only 6,764 struck. Choice reflective surfaces. This is a very attractive piece that is fully struck and has reasonably bright color with incredibly smooth satiny to reflective (and abundant) mint luster remaining on each side. Very few marks or abrasions are in the fields. Also, the viewer is invited to enjoy the coin’s boldly struck detail, as near to an Uncirculated example as one could hope for. The low mintage ensures that this Carson City issue will always be a favorite with collectors. Pop 14; 1 finer in 61 as the only Mint State example graded at PCGS (PCGS # 8696) .
Estimated Value $9,000 - 10,000.
