Apollo / Soyuz Grouping Including Russian and American Crew Autographs, 6 autographed Russian Cosmonaut photos (Anatole Filipchenko, Nikolay Rukavishnikov, Alexsey Leonov (2x) plus 3 others. There is an autographed photo of a Russian KGB agent that accompanied the cosmonauts (but don't tell anyone he was KGB). An 8 x 10" NASA color print is signed by Vance Brand and Deke Slayton. A 14 x 11½" photo of the American and Soviet crews sitting on mock-ups of their capsules shaking hands. An 8 x 10" Russian photo of the American Prime, back-up and support crews and the Russian crew (faded), a crew patch given to the consignor by Deke Slayton, several commemorative covers and 10 assorted 8 x 10 NASA photos. Deke Slayton’s Haley Space Flight Award., Every 2 years The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) presents this award for outstanding contributions by an astronaut or flight test personnel to the advancement of the art, science or technology and astronautics. In January 1978 Slayton, Stafford and Brand won the award for their ASTP mission. The medal is heavy and has 2.5" diameter. The back is inscribed with the names of the 3 recipients and January 17, 1978. A yellow and two tone blue ribbon is attached so the medal can be worn. Deke Slayton's Key to the City of San Francisco., The key was presented to "Donald Slayton" on October 17, 1975. It measures 9 1/4 " long and is rather heavy. The key is engraved on the head to Slayton along with the mayor’s signature. On the opposite side is the city’s official seal. It was manufactured by "SCHLAGE". Deke Slayton’s "Silver Eagle Racing Team" Articles of Incorporation – (includes 3 full Slayton signatures), Deke was an avid racing plane pilot and on April 8, 1986 incorporated "Silver Eagle". The company records are contained in a 3 ring binder with tabs for articles of incorporation, minuets, by-laws, certificates and a transfer ledger. The Texas Secretary of State signed the articles forming the corporation. The minuets of the first meeting on May 28, 1986 indicate that both Deke and Bobbie Slayton will each purchase 10,000 shares (for $1.00). It doesn’t look like the sale was ever executed because the last section of the binder includes all 20 stock certificates. Also includes a hand press for embossing the certificates. Deke Slayton’s personally inscribed edition of "The National Air and Space Museum"., A special leather bound volume, in a limited edition of 2500 copies traces the amazing history of aviation from the days before the Wright Brother’s first powered flight through the Apollo missions and exploring the planets. Deke’s Apollo-Soyuz mission is covered with a beautiful foldout image of the Apollo and Soyuz capsules jointed together. The book is over 500 pages with the captivating text including interesting anecdotes, logs, diaries, eyewitness accounts and much more. As the book says it provides a "spectacular guided tour which you can take over and over again". The first page is personally inscribed to Deke Slayton, #1840 of 2500 copies. Deke Slayton’s Apollo/ Soyuz Wall Hanging – 4" mission patch, The patch is inserted in a recessed portion of the plaque with a clear protective cover over the top. The plaque measures 7 x 7 ½" and has a hook on the back side. This was obviously displayed in a place of honor by Slayton. Some slight wear on the wood does not detract. This lot also includes a medallion commemorating Apollo 11, measuring 2 1/2" with one side depicting the images of the crew and the reverse shows the LM on the Lunar surface.
