1853 Dollar Octagonal Liberty. BG-530 Rarity 2. NGC graded MS-62. Light golden toning. Desirable early Period One Type, the one-dollar denomination tends to be the scarcest in this intriguing series of privately minted coins. This impressive design has some of the best detail among the varied California Fractional Gold issues, with sharp hair definition on the Liberty head, along with beaded edge along the coronet's brim. Pop 24; 10 finer.

1871 Half Dollar Octagonal Liberty. BG-924 Rarity 3. PCGS graded MS-64. Liberty head set high in the field for placement of a large recut "G" (for Robert B. Gray, the issuer). Lovely golden color and very choice surfaces, slightly prooflike. Die finishing lines are present on Liberty, seen on this variety in particular but others across the Fractional Gold series (PCGS # 10782) .

1875 Half Dollar Octagonal Indian. BG-946 Rarity 4. NGC graded MS-63 Prooflike. Some uneveness in the strike at DOLLAR as almost always seen. Indian head surrounded by 13 large stars, ones at top pinched tight by the narrow space the die maker had to work with.

Some half dollar fractional gold dates are quite common as though minted in the thousands, whereas some fly entirely "under the radar" as the saying goes. This is such a piece, naturally prooflike in the fields, for of the BG-1004 1859 Round Liberty heads encapsulated by this service, this is the result: Pop 1; none finer at NGC .
