Lot 1365
1801. . O-102, R-4. NGC graded VG-8. Nice blue toning. Two varieties for 1801, in O-102 the first A in AMERICA is embedded in the eagle's wing feathers. Both use the identical obverse. Scarce.

Lot 1367
1807. . O-105, R-1. PCGS graded MS-62. Attractive golden toning. A velvety smooth and lustrous early Capped Bust, Large Eagle half dollar with a gradation of faint champagne on both sides. The underlying frost is shimmering white. The contact from the dies is virtually complete, although perhaps a hint of weakness is seen at the lovelock curl on Liberty’s neck. Stars at left complete; those on the right less so but still well formed for the most part. Turning next to the reverse, here too the detail is much better than on most 1807-dated halves. There is a complete E PLURIBUS UNUM on the scroll. Some of the wing feathers and breast detail near the shield is flat. A design problem since this area of the reverse lies opposite some of the highest relief on the obverse. The luster on both sides flows nicely outward producing the typical cartwheel sheen seen on the better preserved Mint States of the Type. Best of all, marks are nearly absent on this handsome offering!

The die state is early enough so that the coin falls under O-105 rather than the "advanced state". There are, however, extensive die breaks through STATES OF (which later expanded into a near collapse of the die, shorting die-life) (PCGS # 6079) .
Estimated Value $8,000 - 8,500.

1826. PCGS graded MS-62. CAC Approved PQ. Well struck and nicely toned. A frosty, satiny pale golden specimen with residual cartwheel-effects in the luster on both sides. Nicely struck as well, with all the finer detail visible at the hair curls and claps, the stars, and on the reverse, wing feathers and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Some lightness is noted at the claw and branch-end above "50" (PCGS # 6143) .

1834. NGC graded MS-63. A nice white coin. The seventh and final stylistic change to Reich's venerable capped bust left Half Dollar is seen in the 1834 to 1836 lettered edge pieces. There had been a massive redesign by the mint, with a smaller, sharper face and a downward-tilted bust line. Stars also are smaller.
Estimated Value $2,100 - 2,150.

1853. Arrows and Rays. PCGS graded MS-64. CAC Approved PQ. Lovely toning on both sides. A frosty brilliant natural-toned example of this important one-year Type, with highly concentrated luster and almost ostentatious eye appeal. The Philadelphia Mint Arrows and Rays pieces were generally well made. This coin takes confirms the observation with no a hint of weakness at the key central devices. This plus more has been taken into consideration by the grading service at arriving at their conservative MS64 grade.Pop 147; 23 finer (PCGS # 6275) .

1877-CC. NGC graded MS-65. Lovely light gold and blue toning. Satiny and highly lustrous fields support frosty, sharp design motifs on this splendid gem, the grade many collectors strive to acquire, especially when the coin involved was minted in Carson City. Lovely toning hues have gathered across the surface, adding a touch of elegance to an already beautiful gem. While not a great rarity where Carson City Mint issues go, the present 1877-CC is of outstanding quality -- where else will you find an 1877-CC half dollar to compare? Pop 19; 7 finer.

A glittering gem with spectacular mirrors and lively lavender-rose, extensive blue and some golden toning highlights. 1891. NGC graded Proof 66. Nicely toned. A worthwhile gem by any yardstick you choose to measure it: the luster is not in the least bit timid or shy about proclaiming itself. Meanwhile dusky lavender and other toning hues blossom on both sides. The strike, like the luster, is confident, indeed, as bold as ever seen on virtually any Proof date in the Seated Half Dollar series. Only 600 struck. Pop 35; 4 finer, 3 in 67, 1 in 68.
