Lot 3000
1879. The City Of Virginia, Nevada Water Bond. Not issued. Of great historical interest to the numismatist in that this water bond is from the great mining town of Virginia City, Nevada. The stated authorization is from 1877, with the first interest payment due "in gold coin" February 1, 1879 at the interest rate of "Twelve Percent Per Annum". The bond is finely engraved and large, approximately 15 inches across by 18 inches long, at the center is a lovely engraving of what must be the Courthouse, and at the lower center is another small engraving of mountains, the sun and a village. The perimeter of the bond is engraved in gold metallic ink, while the balance is black ink. Four coupons are attached for collecting the interest payments due. One can only imagine the wonderful "CC" gold pieces which would have been used for payment of interest, fresh from the Carson City Mint.
Of interest to any Nevada specialist, or Carson City gold specialist, and suitable for framing. Very Fine.
Estimated Value $50-UP.
