1908-D NO MOTTO, PCGS GRADED MS-66. PCGS graded MS-66. Satiny orange-gold luster with splendid surfaces throughout. The strike is full and complete, with every nuance of the design bold save for the very center of the obverse, where slight weakness is the rule for the issue. Close examination with a glass will note a couple of shallow marks on Liberty's face, a couple hidden on her headdress, and the tiniest of marks on the eagle. Sporting a grade like MS-66, one knows the surfaces are very nearly perfect, and after 15 years of countless coins to the grading services, only 4 have been graded this high by PCGS, with a single coin graded higher. Nearly impossible to find in this grade, and worth a record bid.
Estimated Value $30,000 - 40,000.

1908 $10 Indian. With motto. PCGS graded MS-63. This one has some minor weakness on the upper devices, but is still bright and lustrous. TIED FOR THE FINEST KNOWN 1908-S. PCGS graded MS-68. Superb! There is only one type issued by San Francisco in 1908, all of them have the motto IN GOD WE TRUST in the field left of the eagle. As a date, 1908-S is considered rare, only 59,850 were struck. Gems are extremely rare, to find any eagle in this state of preservation is nearly impossible, let alone a rare date. PCGS in their Population Report shows only 3 graded in MS-68. NGC has graded only a single coin this high.
A glance will tell all, the surfaces are satiny smooth, a glass is needed to find the infinitesimal tick marks hidden on the eagle's feathers. We were able to trace this exact coin by a tiny toning spot on the rim above the eagle's tail to a 1992 Superior Galleries sale where it realized $60,500 then. To our knowledge, this coin has been off the market since that time. This is absolutely the freshest, most original and most perfect eagle we've ever had the pleasure to offer, be sure to avail yourself of the opportunity to purchase this unique rarity, for it may not be offered again for decades.
Estimated Value $50,000-UP.

Lot 1106
BLAZING 1909-D INDIAN PCGS GRADED MS-66. PCGS graded MS-66. Outstanding quality here! Blazing mint luster on the velvety smooth fields and wonderfully preserved. As to signs of age, this coin has virtually none, it appears virtually as the day it was struck, a hint of golden yellow color on the obverse, with a couple of tiny coppery specks which serve to identify this as the coin sold by Superior Galleries in May 1992. Similar on the reverse, a few tiny marks are visible with a strong glass, and a couple of faint toning specks near the eagle.
As to the rarity in this condition, PCGS has only graded 3 coins this high, with 2 coins graded higher. NGC has graded only a single coin as high as MS-66. For the buyer who demands the finest quality and understands the condition rarity offered here. Well worth taking the time just to view this coin, even if its something you can never own, simply to view the coiner's art at its finest.
Estimated Value $30,000 - 40,000.

NEAR GEM 1911-D INDIAN $10. PCGS graded MS-64 Premium quality. One of the finest known examples of this low mintage date (30,100). The current PCGS Population Report notes only 8 have been graded this high, with just 2 coins graded higher! That makes this one of the very finest available to date collectors. The surfaces have resplendent luster, and the obverse is completely untoned, and no marks can be found except with the aid of a strong glass. There is one hidden one near the end of a middle feather and a couple of very minor disturbances in the lower left obverse field. Similar on the reverse, just a couple of tiny tick located below AMERICA, and there is some coppery toning along the lower periphery. Hairlines are at the barest minimum, and they are a challenge to find.
According to the PCGS Population Reports, this is the second most difficult date to locate in this grade or higher, just a bit behind the 1920-S. Certainly the mintage was very low in 1911 for the Denver Mint, and obviously few were saved. There simply weren't many collectors around then that cared about mintmarked coins, and saving rolls of coins was decades away from being fashionable.
As true collectors know, when a great rarity is offered, such as the coin here, it is best to purchase it and lock it away. It may be years before another opportunity to purchase such a coin appears, and you simply can't order one whenever you want to obtain one. You must strike while the iron is hot. Don't let this opportunity pass you by.
Estimated Value $75,000-UP.

Lot 1122
OUTSTANDING 1913-S $10.00 GOLD. PCGS graded MS-64 Premium quality. Here is another key date to the Indian Eagle series, the 1913-S. Only 66,000 were struck, most circulated at the time of issue and few were saved. According to the PCGS Population Report, only 8 have been graded this high, with 3 graded higher. In all, it appears that less than 100 survive in all grades of uncirculated. Perhaps that will give the bidders some idea of how special this coin is.
The surfaces are extremely choice, a glass will locate a couple of tiny tick marks on Liberty's face, but the fields and devices are certainly of gem quality. Light olive gold toning surrounds the devices and gives the coin a bit of an antique appearance over the mint-fresh luster. Similar on the reverse, with lightly toned fields and boldly struck devices. Again, a glass will scarcely find a tick mark anywhere. Simply put, this is a staggering rarity in this grade, certainly one of the top dozen known of the date, perhaps in the top six, if all could ever be assembled for comparison. An important opportunity for the numismatist to purchase on of the highest grade and rarest issues of the Indian Eagle series.
Estimated Value $50,000-UP.
