Lot 5615
Italy SCWPM# 85b, 5.5.1952 5000 Lire. PCGS Gem New 65PPQ. This is a magnificent high grade example of a type that is very seldom seen New if at all, much less with ideal colors, inks and centering such as this Gem. It is the second of two consecutively numbered notes here offered, both of which were saved at the time of issue. We've never seen its equal, and based on the data from the grading services, neither have they. The Krause catalog valuation of $1000 in "UNC" is likely to be a conservative starting place for the bidding, and we expect more than casual interest from serious collectors before the hammer falls.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,500.

Lot 5616
Italy SCWPM# 85b, 5.5.1952 5000 Lire. PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ. The first of two consecutively numbered notes here offered, this nearly as nice as the other but with a light corner bend that limits the technical grade. It has almost every bit the aesthetic appeal of the higher grade piece, and we wouldn't be surprised at a runaway realization on this note either.
Estimated Value $500 - 700.
