Rare LDS, die state d early, with a bisecting die crack through the portrait plus a horizontal die crack from the dentils through star 1 to the bust. A decent example of this very rare die state.

1848 N-30 R5 F15. Sharpness VF30 but there are a few rim bruises on each side, including one at star 6 and another at TA in STATES. In addition there are traces of fine verdigris or crud caked into many of the protected areas, especially on the reverse. Perhaps a bath is warranted since the crud appears to be soft. Glossy chocolate brown with slightly lighter steel brown highpoints. MDS, die state b, with a strong, clearly defined rim cud from star 7 to star 8. Tied for CC#5 of those known with the cud break in the Grellman census, and the strength of the cud on this piece is a big plus.

None of the nicks is notable and the best identifying mark is a light rim bruise above star 8. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate with steel brown toning on the highpoints. EDS. Comes with a nice provenance for a relatively modest cent.

Essentially flawless. The only mark, and it is barely visible, is a tiny tick hidden on the upper edge of the ear. M-LDS, die state b. Our grade is MS64. PCGS population 46; 7 in MS66 for the date.

1850 N-12 R1 MS65. Lustrous mint red just starting to mellow to light steel brown on the highest points, about 90% of the mint color remaining. No notable marks or other defects. A small spot of steel toning at the dentil tips between the tip of the wreath ribbon and the adjacent U is a good identifying mark. M-LDS, die state b early. The point from the left side of the C in CENT is short but remains visible and the tiny lump on the rim over the right edge of the D in UNITED is present. A beautiful, totally original cent. Tied for CC#3 in the Grellman census.
