Lot 4944
New Zealand SCWPM# 154, 1.8.1934 10 Shillings. PCGS Very Fine 30PPQ. Fr-P-154. This is a beautiful and scarce mid-grade circulated example of a very popular issue. Other than the very rare 50 Pounds issue from the 1934 series, this is the scarcest denomination that is available to most collectors. When seen, most examples are low grade and many are damaged. This piece is an exception to the rule, with bold colors and no problems whatsoever for the grade. Certain to inspire spirited bidding, and we would not be surprised at all if our pre-sale estimate proves to be conservative in the extreme.
Estimated Value $400 - 600.

Lot 4955
Rhodesia & Nyasaland SCWPM# 20a, 30.3.1957 10 Shillings. PCGS Gem New 66PPQ. Fr-P-20a. An incredible high grade example from this scarce British Commonwealth issue, from a short-lived federation of several central African states. It is ideally centered, with exceptional colors and not a trace of circulation. Fully uncirculated examples of this note are very rare, and this piece is tied with one other piece (a PMG graded 66) for the finest graded example from either of the two major grading services. The Krause reference lists this Pick number at $2300 in "UNC," and we would not be surprised at all if that number, and our conservative pre-auction estimate, are blown away in spirited bidding.
Estimated Value $1,250 - 1,750.

Lot 4956
Rhodesia & Nyasaland SCWPM# 23a, 3.7.1959 10 Pounds. PCGS Very Fine 20. Fr-P-23a. This is a rare denomination that is very seldom seen in any grade. The Krause reference lists a valuation of $3000 in "VF," and lists merely a "--" in uncirculated grade. This piece displays good color and solid paper for the grade, although as with any VF note it has some obvious folds, minor soiling, and normal signs of circulation. With rare World notes in strong demand and commanding higher and higher prices in today's discerning market, we would not at all be surprised if this piece breaks beyond our conservative pre-sale range and sets a new record for this issue.
Estimated Value $1,250 - 1,750.

Rhodesia & Nyasaland SCWPM# 21a, 13.5.1957 1 Pound. PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ. Fr-P-21a. A single light bend is the only flaw on this beautiful and scarce example. This is the finest example of this denomination and issue graded by either major grading service, with the closest a PMG AU50. This Pick number lists at $2400 in "UNC" in the Krause reference, and the final winning bid may very well prove to be close to that valuation.

Rhodesia & Nyasaland SCWPM# 22a, 30.3.1957 5 Pounds. PCGS About New 53 Apparent. Fr-P-22a. While free of much actual circulation, there are a couple of staple holes near the right end that were noted by PCGS Currency and caused the "Apparent" grade. This very scarce Pick number is valued at $1200 in "VF" and $3600 in "UNC" in the Krause reference, and despite the minor flaw this note will still bring a strong winning bid.
Estimated Value $500 - 700.
