The strike is complete down to the smallest design features (including the small beads that line the upper edge of Liberty’s coronet), rarely do we expect such strength of detail. As with the half dollar so-dated, the 6 in the die was engraved over an earlier 5, but with both numerals visible on the struck coin. 1872 Dollar Round Indian. BG-1207 Rarity 4. NGC graded MS-63 PL. Well struck and choice. One of the most attractive, famous, and desirable Cal Gold Round Dollars with Indian head. It is made by an unknown manufacturer. Breen-Gillio (among others) suggest Henrici & Brand as a possibility. The obverse has a Close Date 1872 set midway between rim and bust. In this it differs from BG-1206 which has the date low. It employs a reverse earlier used on BG-1206 with a "spur" back from the top of C of CALIFORNIA. Pop 2; 1 finer in 65.
