Lot 925
1926-D. PCGS graded MS-64 CAC Approved. A satiny creamy-white example. Struck during the heyday of the Roaring Twenties. Peace dollars might never have been minted were it not for the Pittman Act of 1918 which led to the mass melting of dollars (a couple of hundred MILLION Morgan dollars) to bail out Great Britain in a time of crisis. The Act required the Treasury to purchase a like amount of silver to recoin into new silver dollars. Between 1921 and 1928, this requirement was met and then production of Peace dollars suspended for a time (PCGS # 7368) .
Estimated Value $250 - 300.
