Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 547
1851 N-37 R4 VG10. Off Center. Five points sharper but the gloss on the obverse is subdued by microscopic granularity and there is a rim dent at the bottom of the reverse. Olive brown and chocolate, the reverse nice and glossy, the obverse only partly so. Struck 15% off center to K-2.5. A rare type of error, especially for 1851. The extensive error collection of Michael Arconti (McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 7/27/2003) did not contain an off center 1851, and the Dan Holmes collection (McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 9/19/2010) contained only one example and it did not have a date.
