1796 S-90 R5+ Liberty Cap Fair-2+. Upset Reverse. Somewhat glossy chocolate and steel brown. The obverse sharpness is close to G4 but the reverse is only Fair-2. The surfaces are not perfectly smooth but they aren't bad considering the low grade. A rim nick was smoothed left of the bottom of the cap and another was smoothed under the tip of the bust, and there is a scuff of light scratches on the reverse. The date is nearly complete, only the 1 showing significant weakness, but no more than half the reverse designs remain visible, and those are weak. Struck with the reverse upset head-to-head rather than the usual head-to-foot die orientation.
