[Tweed Ring Principals], Samuel Tilden (1814-86) Reform Governor of New York; he lead the attack on the Tweed Ring; won the popular vote but lost the election in the disputed 1876 presidential election. Autograph Letter Signed,1¼ pp, 10 mx 8", New York, Dec. 20, 1842. To William Bouck, Governor of NY, offering his support for Nathaniel Pierce for Tobacco Inspector, "…he discharged its active duties as duputy, until Whig intolerance sought to force his removal…." Letter is silked, else fine.
William Marcy Tweed (1823-78) NY politician who headed the infamous Tammany Hall organization known as the Tweed Ring; tried and found gulty of corruption, he escaped to Spain. Partly-printed Document Signed ("W.M. Tweed") as Supervisor of the NY County Substitute and Relief Committee, 3 pp, 7 x 8½", Sept. 28, 1863. Certifying that A.K. Sloan has obtained a substitute to replace him as an active member of the Fire Department, because Sloan had been drafted into military service.
William L. Marcy (1786-1857) Member of the NY political group known as the "Albany Regency." He was Governor of NY, U.S. Secretary of War, and U.S Secretary of State. He coined the phrase "spoils system." Autograph Letter Signed as Secretary of State, one page, 7¼ x 5", Washinton, Feb. 4, n.y. Marcy makes an appointment for the Honorable D.J. Dickinson to meet with the President.

Kennedy, Robert (1925-68) U.S. Attorney General, U.S. Senator, brother of John F. Kennedy; he was assassinated by Sirhan Sirhan. Typed Letter Signed ("Bob") as Attorney General, one page, 9 x 7 inches, November 16, 1964. To Dr. Janet Travell (1901-97) who was White House Physician during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, "On November 22 at 9:00 AM, Mass will be celebrated at St. Matthews Cathedral, Washington, in memory of President Kennedy. I wanted you to know in case you might like to attend." Dr. Travell was a pioneer in the treatment of myofascial pain and she aided JFK for this and other ailments which threatened to cut short his career in 1955. In gratitude for her help, he named her White House Physician.
