Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 403
Gemini Program, c1960s, NASA Gemini Launch Vehicle Model (34x3", about 20 lbs) This striking, four-part, machined aluminum NASA painted model comes with a round, 7" metal base that is without any ID plate. This would appear to be an unusually early NASA model. Included is a fitted, blue-painted, felt-lined, hinged wooden case (12x9x24", about 15lbs alone), again without any ID markings. The model and case are in virtually pristine condition - almost unheard of in such an early model.
This model is from the estate of James Jacobs, one of the five founders of the National Aviation Hall of Fame in Dayton, Ohio. An important find and one that is virtually unique on today's market.
Estimated Value $7,500 - 10,000,

Gemini Program, c1963//1991, Paul Haney's Personal Scrapbooks, This three volume set of scrapbooks, each with unattached green covers marked "Public Affairs Office / Manned Spacecraft Center / NASA / Vol. I / II / III", is a history of Haney's work as the "Voice of the Astronauts, of Space, of Gemini and of Apollo" (and beyond). Included are abou75/100 NASA 8x10" color /black and white publicity photos (mostly candid and mostly attached to the scrapbook pages), astronaut autographs (written on the scrapbook pages themselves), press clippings, telegrams, fan mail, letters of congratulations (from a variety of collegues including Walter Cronkite, David Brinkley, Jules Bergman, Charles von Freund, etc.) and much, much more. As is the nature of scrapbooks of this age, the condition of all books leaves a lot to be desired, but there is a lot to be appreciative of also - such as cartoon strips from Milton Caniff/"Steve Canyo" and Charles Schultz/"Peanuts", Group Achievement and other Awards, etc.
Included are astronaut autographs from John Young (GT-3), James McDivitt (blue ink, GT-4), Gordon Cooper, Charles Conrad (GT-5), James Lovell, Frank Borman (GT-7), Tom Stafford, Wally Schirra (GT-6), Neil Armstrong, Dave Scott (GT-8), Gene Cernan, Tom Stafford (GT-9A), John Young, Michael Collins (GT-10), Charles Conrad, R. F. Gordon, Jr. (GT-11), James Lovell, Buzz Aldrin (GT-12), and John Glenn (on a personal note). These are in mixed condition but generally bold and mostly clean.
An exceptional lot that provides a window behind the scenes to the Gemini Program. Viewing strongly recommended.

Gemini Program, 1968, NASA Memo with Alan Shepard Comments, This original 1968 "Review of Gemini Transcripts" Memo from Paul Haney at the Public Affairs Office to Chief, Astronaut Office has to do with reviewing the Gemini on-board transcripts prior to public release. Haney strongly recommends against this review. Shepard strongly disagrees writing: "Paul, Sorry, Cannot oblige without other direction - still don't agree with your concept". Haney ends his letter: "If nothing else, I am a firm believer in telling it like it is…I contend that the slightest editing, consoring, massaging otherwise whatever of the released transcript will not help generations yet unborn to understand what went on when Gus Grissom and John Young orbited the Earth three times on March 23, 1965. Our literature today is certainly spicey enough to accept an occassional god-damn or worse. The public doesn't think of our space pilots as a bunch of alter boys. Certainly the pilots themselves shouldn't entertain any such grandiose self-appraisal…". This memo and Shepard's comments definitely call it like it was. A historic internal document.

GT-1, c1963, Unmarked Gray "Pad" in Plastic Wrapper (4x4") We have no idea what this pad is or was supposed to have been used for. The pad appears to be gray cloth, unmarked on one side and with small white squares on the other. The margins are stitched, but there are also staples in each corner. The sealed wrapper is marked "Film-O-Wrap 5500 / Jul 1965 / Mil F-22191 (Aar) Type II / Mil-F-23712 (Wep) / Lot 2 " on the other".
