1815. 5 Over 2. . O-101. PCGS graded AU-53 PQ. CAC Approved. Lovely toning on both sides. A natural-toned, still partly lustrous example with surfaces to die for on both sides: smooth, mainly free of marks. Nicely struck as well, with just a hint of weakness at the eagle’s wing. Bullion deposits in the mint fell off dramatically as 1815 dawned, with the country still under siege from the British forces during America’s War of 1812 (as opposed to the French-Russian War the same year). Few half dollars were coined; almost all of them saw extensive wear in circulation. Pop 11; 40 finer (PCGS # 6108) . Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500. 1834. Small date and letters. PCGS graded MS-62. Attractively toned, the chief virtue of this piece is its smooth-flowing luster which covers the entire surface, enveloping it in originality. Another virute, never to be overlooked, is the sharpness in the hair curls and eagle feathers. Though we do see some minor weakness at the end of Liberty's bust where it comes up opposite a high point on the other side of the coin. All in all a choice exmaple. Pop 39; 99 finer (PCGS # 6166) .
