Lot 1179
1965. ICG graded EF-40. Struck on a 90% silver blank. For any of a dozen or more different reasons, it is possible that incorrectly made blanks or simply wrong blanks can find their way into presses. The result will be a coin struck on a blank for which it wasn't intended.

In this way, an earlier blank from the suspended silver coinage era found its way into the press where a set of 1965-dated dies was striking the new Clad Coinage still in use today.

The coin struck on an incorrect blank will weigh exactly what the material of that blank would have been. A quarter struck on an earlier silver blank will weigh what a standard pre-1965 silver quarter would normally weigh. An opportunity for the Errors collector. Very Rare.
Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,500.
