1883-S. PCGS graded MS-64. A well struck beauty, intensely lusrtrous with hints of light gold here and there. Unlike the common sister coins of 1880-S thru 1882-S, which are readily found in choice grades, the 1883-S is noteworthy for its relatively low survival outside of baggy low-end Mint State. This one is a winner! Pop 366; 26 finer (PCGS # 7148) .
Estimated Value $3,500 - 3,700.

Lot 984
1883-S. PCGS graded MS-64. A choice satiny white specimen. Often compared to the 1884-S, and like the 1884-S, albeit to a lesser degree, the 1883-S is a conditionally rare issue. Circulated survivors from the original mintage of 6.2 million pieces are readily obtainable. This suggests a wide distribution into circulation at the time. In Mint condition, however, the '83-S is scarce to rare, depending on the particular coin's proximity to the Gem (65) grade level. This very Choice quality representative is vibrant with only a few light bagmarks in the fields. The balance of the features are richly frosted, and the strike is typically sharp for the date (similar to the 1879-S to 1882-S issues). The number of scattered abrasions is not excessive for the assigned grade. Pop 366; 26 finer (PCGS # 7148) .
Estimated Value $3,500 - 3,700.

1885. NGC graded Proof 67. A gorgeous iridescent toned Proof featuring vivid shades of turquoise and violet giving the coin a "bull's eye" effect. Only 930 Proofs struck. Exquisite is the word to describe this remarkable Silver Dollar. Although this older NGC holder does not designate any cameo status, there is no doubt that this Proof Morgan has visible contrast. But the two tone effect that is seen on bright examples is forced into the shadows by the intense and intensely beautiful toning. The fields are reflective and deep. The cheek pristine with no signs of hairlines or luster graze. The strike is razor sharp as one expects, and on both sides. A coin fit for the finest Proof Morgan Set currently being assembled. Pop 5; 4 finer in 68 (PCGS # 7320) .

1886. NGC graded Proof 65. A fully white Gem Proof. Delicate satin to frosted white devices resonate off of the mirror surface of this near-pristine Gem. 1890-CC. PCGS graded MS-64. Well struck and frosty white. The '90-CC, while coming from the same Treasury Department hoards of the 1970s as the other issues, is much scarcer than, say, the 1882-CC thru 1884-CC dates. It commands a strong following. Those hoping to acquire multiple examples of choice quality 1890-CC often are frustrated in the endeavor (PCGS # 7198) .
