Lot 1946
1853 Half Dollar Round. Breen and Gillio-435. Low Rarity 5. PCGS graded AU-58. The popular California Arms type. Delicately toned. Mellow orange on yellow gold with strong luster and a nuance of deeper golden toning around the periphery. Somewhat Prooflike -- not in a classic sense, but close nonetheless. A scarce and popular variety that is often found holed, when found at all. Technically much rarer than its Rarity-5+ listing suggests since demand for the type far exceeds the known offerings of the variety. The Arms of California issue is one of the classic design types of the series, and a piece that will see a high degree of bidding activity when specialists and type collectors alike compete for ownership rights on this desirable specimen. Pop 9; 38 finer (PCGS # 10471) .
Estimated Value $7,000 - 8,000.
