Two Vintage J.A. Henckels Twin Works Straight Razors - #402. Made in Solingen, Germany. 6¼ in. closed. Blade width is 5/8 in., edge length is 2¾ in., total blade lenth is 5½ in., and handle is 5½ in. Shave ready. With original case, 6½ x 1½ in., which is worn.

Fleckenstein, Jr. (1981); and Susquehanna River Decoys by Harold R. Buskwalter (1978). The first three were published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd., Box E. Exton, Pa.; the fourth was published by The Maple Press Co., York, Pa. Interiors are all fine; dust jackets have edge tears and wear.

Lot 554
Duck Decoy - Hand Carved. A female widget, hand carved by Ward Brothers, Crisfield, MD. Original paint. Neck has been repaired. This is a work of art--unbelievably beautiful. Brothers Lem and Steve Ward (born in the mid 1890s) were barbers who carved decoy ducks and waterfowl in their spare time. They gained national fame after National Geographic Magazine wrote an article about them in 1964. Their work is treasured more as art today than for its utility.

The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art in Salisbury, MD., honors the Ward Brothers and the art of decoy carving. Here is a quote from the Chesapeake Bay Journal about the Ward Brothers: "Their carvings were especially lifelike. Unlike most decoy makers of the time, Lem and Steve gave unique expressions and poses to their birds. They took to studying the subtle coloration patterns on dead birds, and reviewed birds both in the wild and in books. As a result, no two decoys were ever quite alike. 'Ducks,' Lem once explained, 'are like people and fingerprints.' Some hunting clubs refused to use any decoys that didn't come from the Ward brothers."

French Art Noveau Fan c. 1900. An unusual and rare "Zepher" French Clockwork Art Noveau fan. It is marked "Metropole, Monte Carlo," having been a fixture of this famous hotel. At 13" high, this unsually shaped piece could be carried from room to room.

Made of guilded brass showing some slight wear throughout, its base and stem are designed to resemble a Roman column.An intricate floral design is on the front of the main housing. A clockwork mechanism is wound for power; the fan is started and stopped with a small knob at the top of the housing.

Miniature French Stamp Box by Tahan, Paris. C. 1850s Wood with brass trim, with "Tahan Paris" stamped around lock, 1½ x 3¼ x 2¼ in. One tray. Inlaid within a brass design on the lid is an imperf bronze and blue stamp with a bust portrait of Napoleon III and "Empire Franc" at the top, "20 C. Postes 20 C." below. Wood shows wear, expecially around lock; box opens but key is missing. Fair condition. Alphonse Tahan (1830-1880) was official ébéniste (cabinet maker) to Napoleon III (French emperor from 1852-1870).

Antique Mother of Pearl and Brass Lemaire Opera Glasses. C. early 1900s. Also engraved with the name of the jewelry store where they were bought: H.J. Whitley Co. Los Angeles. With original leather case, worn with broken strap. H.J. Whitley (1847-1931) was a major land developer in southern California and is often called the "Father of Hollywood."
