1878 Morgan Dollar. 8 tail feathers. PCGS graded MS-64. Mostly white with a minor chattermark (from the edge of another coin) on Liberty's cheek. 1879 Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 64. Original even toning on both sides. 1,100 minted. Deep patina on each side points to long storage in an original tissue paper as received from the mint, with the hues deepest in color reserved for the peripheral areas. There is no hint of striking softness at the centers, a deficiency that sometimes shows up on Proof Morgans of this date; on the contrary this lovely 1879 Proof is sharp as a knife's edge on all the design features, an important advantage. Pop 83; 34 finer (PCGS # 7314) .
Estimated Value $2,500 - 2,600.

1879-CC Morgan Dollar. NGC graded MS-63. VAM-3 Capped CC Top 100. A frosty white coin. A brilliant, gleaming specimen with no visible imperfections other than some scattered bagmarks usually associated with this issue. Fine boldness of strike throughout, which further supports the desirable MS63 grade. Only 756,000 minted.

(The interesting "Capped Die" VAM-3 resulted when a Medium Sized mintmark was punched into the die over a Small mintmark, the results of which went awry and ended up looking a bit confused to the inexperienced observer.) (PCGS # 7086) .
Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,200.

1879-CC Vam-3. Capped "CC". NGC graded MS-62 Deep Mirror Prooflike. Top 100. Untoned. The Capped Die 1879-CC was produced by one die, VAM-3. It is good to refresh oneself every so often with the fact that the "Capped Die" is in reality a Medium over Small Mintmark, the results of which went badly wrong and ended up looking jumbled. Well struck, the surfaces have bright, deep mirror reflection and only scattered bagmarks on the cheek interfering with the silvery white luster residing there.Pop 8; 12 in 63, 7 in 64, 1 in 65.
