At times, attribution to a certain family or gens is difficult. For instance, the family name "Postumia" is not inscribed on the coins of Albinus Bruti f. How does one find the proper gens name as per Babelon? Use the valuable index in RSC volume I, when all else fails. It will make things easier, as most inscriptions on the coins are included.

Lot 2385
Three Scarcer, About EF Silver Denarii of Republican Times. Caecilia 45, Casia 1 and Quinctia 6. All are ex Malter's Rindge Collection auction. Lot of 3 coins.

At the turn of the last century, Frederick Hastings Rindge owned all of Malibu in California. The main artery built through Rancho Malibu was named "Roosevelt Highway" after the beloved president, and was later renamed "Pacific Coast Highway."

Grandfather Chumash, the last full-blooded native Chumash Indian of the area, was lecturing in the late 1960s when this cataloguer and his young family moved to a tiny portion of this fragile and beautiful 27-mile-long area along the Southern California coast. We heard his voice, shook his hand, looked into his wise, gentle eyes. According to his words, Grandfather Chumash was a shaman and a trader; he exchanged tribal secrets for sacred ancestral bones lying in museum cabinets.

Rindge treasured history, and these coins from his trays have special meaning, at least to the present cataloguer, whose children have actually unearthed portions of the Rindge's narrow-gauge railroad which crossed our property.
Estimated Value $300 - 350.
