The date and legends are complete and easily readable.

1793 S-6 R3 Wreath Cent. PCGS graded VG-10. Glossy light chocolate brown with darker chocolate toning in the most-protected areas on both sides. The surfaces are smooth and display only minor contact marks, including a pinprick on the cheek and a rim nick before the eye. The date is easily readable but the bottom is starting to wear into the rim below. The legends are complete except for the tops of OF AM which are starting to flow into the rim thanks to the reverse die being slightly misaligned to K-2. EDS without any notable swelling in the field behind the portrait. Our grade is VG8+, close to the PCGS grade of VG10.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.

The fields are covered with fine granularity that is mostly offset by an attractive glossy chocolate brown and steel patina. The only other defects are a couple dull rim nicks on the right side of the obverse. MDS with the usual wave in the field behind the portrait. The date and legends are complete and strong.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.

1793 S-9 R2 Wreath Cent. Good-5. Sharpness F12 but this cent was damaged and repaired in several places. The damage may have been holes that were plugged, or they may have been dull punch marks on the obverse that caused bulges on the reverse. Either way, this cent has seen better days. But, the date is strong, the legends are complete, and the surfaces are void of corrosion or verdigris. Overall this piece has decent eye appeal for a G5 1793 Wreath Cent. Glossy chocolate brown and darker steel. EDS, before any die cracks on the reverse.
Estimated Value $500-UP.

1793 S-9 R2 NCS graded Fair Details, Damaged. Wreath Cent. Rather glossy chocolate and olive brown. The surfaces are reasonably smooth and void of any hint of corrosion or verdigris. The only "Damage" is a dull nick under the eye and three more under OF-AM, plus numerous lighter nicks scattered over the fields on both sides. The date is weak but can be made out with a bit of effort, and about half the legends are readable. Our grade is Fair-2. The attribution is noted on the NCS label.

1794 S-18b R4 Head of 1793. PCGS graded Good-4. Glossy olive and dark steel brown. The surfaces are quite nice for the grade with just a hint of microscopic roughness at 179 and in the field behind the portrait. No verdigris or notable signs of contact. The date is not strong but it is easily readable and the legends are nearly complete. The only significant weakness is at TED where heavy swelling has obliterated those details. Very late die state, Breen V late, with the aforementioned die swelling (which may have contributed to the low grade assigned by PCGS). Our grade is G6, and the portrait (Head of 1793) displays the details of an even higher grade.
Estimated Value $700-UP.

1794 S-26 R2 PCGS graded "Genuine". Very attractive glossy chocolate brown. The surfaces are smooth and this cent is choice except for a shallow low spot in the field before the eye (caused by debris on the die). Just a few trivial contact marks are scattered over both sides, none notable. Nicely struck E-MDS, Breen state IV. A strong die crack extends from the dentils down through the E in STATES to the leaf below, and there are strong die clashmarks on the reverse. Our grade is VF20+.

1794 S-42 R4. Fine-12. Sharpness VF20 but the planchet has a very subtle bend from a dull dent across the bottom edge of the bust that caused a barely visible bulge under OF. The only other mark on this cent is a shallow dent in the field left of the bottom edge of the cap and a faint hairline scratch above the date. The planchet is covered with uniform extremely faint granularity that's mostly hidden under a glossy very dark steel patina. The date and legends are complete and easily readable. 1795 S-78 R1 Boldly Double Struck. PCGS graded VF-30. Choice glossy chocolate and medium brown. The surfaces are smooth and virtually flawless offering outstanding eye appeal. The only mark is a tiny nick in the field off the chin. This cent was double struck with both impressions properly centered on the planchet but rotated 40 degrees CCW between the strikes. The result is a dramatic error with two complete dates. This cent is plated on page 256 of Walter Breen's book on the early large cents to illustrate this type of mint error. The PCGS grading label includes the attribution and indicates the cent was double struck and rotated in the collar. Our grade is VF25 choice.
Estimated Value $10,000 - 15,000.

1796 S-88 R4 Flipover Double Strike. PCGS graded VF-20. Choice glossy chocolate and steel brown with hints of frosty luster showing in protected areas. Flawless except for a speck of waxy greenish crud in the dentils left of the bottom edge of the cap, and this piece of debris should be removed before it affects the underlying copper. (This speck was not present when the coin was sold raw in our July 2003 sale.) This cent was dramatically double struck. The initial strike was 10% off center to K-10. The coin was then flipped over in the press and rotated about 100 degrees clockwise before being struck a second time. The second strike was properly centered on the planchet, and it is reasonable to assume the mint workers intentionally corrected their initial error. The result is a fantastic mint error, one of the best examples known of the flipover double strike type of error on an early cent. Strong undertype remains visible on both sides, and traces of the 9 from the initial strike show at D-S on the reverse. Late die state with a fine die crack from the right top of the 7 to the shoulder loop above. A perfect mate for the double struck 1795 cent offered a few lots earlier. The PCGS grading label includes the attribution and mentions the flipover double strike.
Estimated Value $10,000 - 15,000.
