Federal Reserve Notes - Small

Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 1706
? $20 Federal Reserve Note. Missing Face Printing. PCGS New 62PPQ. It's incredible that errors like this make it out of the BEP, but alas mistakes happen--and that's why there are collectors around to snatch up these mistakes when they are available. The face design printing is completely missing, leaving only the overprint with serial numbers and District and Treasury seals on the face.
Estimated Value $400 - 600.

Lot 1710
1988-A, $1 Federal Reserve Note. Printed Tear. PCGS Gem New 66PPQ. . Fr-1915-G. This is a spectacular error note that is as dramatic as they get. An inch and a half vertical tear in the bottom of the note occured after the back and face printings and caused the note to "accordion" upwards, with the resulting printed tear causing the overprint to be printed out of place. The note itself is a Gem as printed, with the tear and folding caused at the BEP during the printing process.
Estimated Value $1,200 - 1,500.

1985, $5 Federal Reserve Note. Retained Obstruction on Back. PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ. . Fr-1978-D. A small piece of transparent plastic has been retained on the back of this note beneath the back (first) printing. Retained obstructions of any kind are scarce, as most are flagged and destroyed before they leave the BEP, or those that do escape usually lose the foreign object or paper scrap that caused the obstructed printing.
Estimated Value $350 - 450.

1999, $20 Federal Reserve Note. Filled Star at UL Serial Number. PCGS Apparent Very Fine 30. . Fr-2085-A*. Filled stars are very uncommon on star notes, and this example shows nearly solid green on the normally hollow star at the end of the upper left serial number. "Apparent" graded by PCGS Currency because it appears to be a Very Fine 30, but has some ink stains in the upper right margin as noted on the holder.
