Sharpness VF20 or better but the planchet is very slightly bent causing the date to be relatively weak (but still easily readable) while the remainder of the legends and devices are strong. The only marks are a few small planchet flakes on the rim at the left side of the obverse. Glossy dark olive and steel. Weight 238.3 grains.

1723 Wood's Hibernia Halfpenny Martin 4.14-Fb.1 Rarity-3. PCGS graded MS-64 Red & Brown. Lustrous mint red fading to steel brown, more than a third of the original mint color remaining. This piece is a flawless gem except for some of the usual tiny planchet chips on the portrait and in the center of the reverse, all as struck. Struck very slightly off center to K-2. A premium example of the type, at least equal to the Martin plate coin for the die variety. Pop 18; 6 finer, 4 in 65RB, 2 in 66RB.

While the surfaces and planchet are not perfect, they are rather decent for this rare variety. No verdigris or contact marks. Slightly glossy brown and chocolate with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. The date is only partially visible but the legends are complete. A bit weakly struck on the lower right of the reverse, as usual for the variety. Weight 120.2 grains.

1787 Connecticut Miller 29.1-p R6. Fine-12. Attractive glossy medium brown with reddish chocolate toning in protected areas. The surfaces are mostly smooth but there are some very tiny pitmarks on the lower half of the reverse, and these pits are filled with greenish verdigris. The bottom of the date is off the planchet and the portion that remains is weak, but the legends and devices are clear. A curved planchet clip affects the dentils over NN in CONNEC, and the reverse is rotated 100 degrees CW. Weight 141.6 grains.

1787 Connecticut Miller 32.2-X.1 R3 Double Struck. VG-8. Slightly sharper but covered with fine corrosion, strongest on the lower right half of the obverse. No marks or verdigris. Slightly glossy steel brown with darker olive brown in protected areas. This piece was boldly double struck. The first strike was 40% off center and the second was centered on the planchet. The result is an out-of-round planchet with extra legend and devices on both sides, but only one date (from the second strike). Weight 121.9 grains.

1787 Connecticut Miller 32.7-X.1 R6. VF-20. Very attractive glossy olive brown with lighter steel brown toning covering the devices. There is a bit of minor verdigris or crud dusted into the protected areas, but overall the surfaces and eye appeal of this piece are very nice for the grade. No planchet defects or contact marks. Struck slightly off center to K-2 leaving the lower half of the date off the planchet. This piece is slightly better than the Perkins and Taylor examples. Possibly CC#2 of this rare variety. Weight 138.2 grains.

The only marks are two tiny planchet chips on the rim at the top of the reverse. The bottom third of the date is off the planchet but the remainder is strong and the legends are clear. Comparable to the Perkins example. Weight 142.1 grains.

Sharpness VF20 with smooth, attractive surfaces, but there is a dent on the head that caused a slightly bulge at the rump of the seated figure on the reverse. A dull rim nick at the top of the reverse is the only additional defect worthy of consideration. Glossy medium brown. The bottom edge of the date is off the planchet but the rest of the date and all of the legends are strong. Better than the Perkins example in spite of the dent. Weight 143.4 grains.

(1667-69) New Jersey Saint Patrick Farthing Breen-212 Griffee G31-6/5d R7 PCGS graded "Genuine". Sharpness F12 or slightly better but covered with minor roughness, strongest in the protected areas and relatively smooth on the devices. No verdigris or notable marks. A bit softly struck below the king but the legends are complete and easily readable. Rather glossy chocolate and olive brown with lighter brown toning on the highpoints. Clearly superior to the Griffee example, which was the second finest of only 5 known to him. Our grade is net VG8.

1786 Vermont Ryder-6 R2. VERMONTENSIUM landscape type. PCGS graded EF-45. Glossy light to medium brown with chocolate toning on the highpoints. The planchet is well above average with only a couple trivial planchet voids near the rim. The surfaces are not perfectly smooth but the roughness is microscopic and is limited to the fields. The obverse is struck slightly off center to the bottom leaving the bottom of the date tight to the edge, but the remainder of the legends on both sides are complete and clear. EDS, before the obverse die cracked. A very nice example of this popular Landscape type.

Lightly cleaned and nicely retoned glossy chocolate and light olive brown with delicate overtones of bluish steel. Late die state with a cud break touching the tops of BL in BLOFIELD. A nice example of this rare mule. Weight 172.1 grains.

1794 Franklin Press Token Breen-1165. PCGS graded MS-63 Brown. Lustrous medium chocolate brown with hints of light bluish steel overtone in protected areas. The surfaces are satiny and offer excellent eye appeal. The only mark is a microscopic planchet chip (as struck) over the left upright of the N in FRANKLIN. Nicely struck MDS. There is a small internal cud break inside the right part of the press. The AN in FRANKLIN are not quite fully impressed, but the strike is better than usually found on this variety. Pop 17; 6 finer, 5 in 64BN, 1 in 66BN.

1796 Castorland Medal in Silver Breen-1058. AU-50. Frosty light silver with delicate steel gray toning in protected areas. The fields are slightly reflective in protected areas. Just a light touch of friction on the devices and a few trivial contact marks, including a couple thin, very light nicks in the field under the P in PARENS. This is an original strike in silver with a reeded edge. The Castorland medals (which are actually French Jetons) refer to a proposed French settlement (known as Castorland) in Carthage, New York. These pieces were struck in France and given to directors of the colonizing company for their attendance at board meetings. While the restrikes made from these dies are relatively common, the original strikes are very rare. Early die state, before the reverse began to show signs of rust. The edge reeding is strong. Weight 234.7 grains.
